Acknowledgments A book is the culmination of a long chain of events, and thanks are due to many people. My long-time friend, Donna Mildvan, suggested that my doctoral dissertation needed to become a book. A friend, Marilyn Taylor, led me to Kathleen Spivack, my relentlessly positive literary guide, who cheer-led me through a year of writer’s anxiety, sharing the secrets of the Viennese along the way. Carole Odell, my dear friend, graced the book jacket with her intelligent, sensitive, and beautiful artwork that captures so well the essence of this material. I’d like to acknowledge Andrea Fleck Clardy. And finally, Elaine Goldman Gill, my editor, whose warmth, humanity, and profound commitment to this project came through in every red editorial squiggle. I have drawn intellectual inspiration from Moshe Feldenkrais, Fritz Peris, Roberto Assagioli, Win Wenger, Robert Masters, and Jean Houston. My dog, Lina, has been my faithful companion throughout. Snug gled calmingly nearby while I typed endlessly, she was a constant reminder of peace, ease, and simplicity. Most of all I want to thank my husband, Bill Hutchinson. He held down the fort and kept the home fires burning (literally) while I was lost in thought and/or deadlines. His patience, understanding, and emotional support provided a holding environment in which I could create. Thank you all. Dedicated to the many women who had the courage to trust me and my method, the courage to dive into deep, unknown waters. If you saw yourselves as I see you, you would know what beauty is. Without you there would be no book. In the scenery of spring there is nothing superior nothing inferior; flowering branches are by nature some short some long. Zen Proverb
