The topic of the lecture, Transformative Communication Technologies: The Accountability Challenge, not only points out the fundamental relevance of digital innovation and transformation processes for societal, econo- mic and scientifc dynamics of development; the deliberations illustrate clearly that questions regarding the attribution of responsibility cannot be adequa tely answered within instrumentalist frameworks and technological promises of a b etter life for all, many or some. The complexity associated with fundamental transformation processes requires critical perspectives, the consideration of diffe- rent development paths and dialogues between different interest groups. We want to thank all who have contributed to the great outcome of this event. Furthermore, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Carmen D rolshagen and Birgit Holzner from innsbruck university press (iup) for their publisher support and our sponsors, the Vice-rectorate for Research at the Uni- versity of Innsbruck, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and the bozner kunst auktionen for enabling the publication to be printed. 7
