"The Fire Within"

In my mind the phrase "The Fire Within" refers to the human spirit, that
intangible but all-important part ofhuman beings that drives us forward and
is the source of energy that imbues our lives with joy. "The Fire Within" is
an excellent phrase to capture the essence of the 2003-2004 school year at
Trafalgar Castle School.
This year has been full ofthe indefatigable spirit ofour students, a spirit that
spills over into the lives of all who come into contact with our school. The
year has been marked by many academic successes evidenced by a range of
accomplishments, from our senior Project Management class presentation to
the university community in Ottawa in the fall, to the individual student who perseveres with the subject she rinds
most challenging until she achieves her personal goal.
Our athletic teams have been composed ofenthusiastic participants, ranging from accomplished senior athletes to
those who have ventured out to try a new sport and made significant contributions to the team effort Memorable
dramatic performances, beautiful voices, talented musicians and creative artists in our student body have enriched
the lives ofour community through their sharing oftheir talents.
It is most impressive to me to watch the tremendous commitment on the part ofour students as they recognize the
importance ofthe spirit ofservice to others and the many good deeds they have done to help others less fortunate
than we. It gives me great hope for the future ofour world to watch these young people demonstrate then spirit of
compassion through personal action and commend them for their deeds, both collective and individual.

I will take my leave of the school after eight wonderful years and [, like our graduates, will carry with me the
amazing sense ofspirit that comes from the lire within at Trafalgar Castle School. Thank you to all whom I have

After 33 years of teaching History, Economics and Law, Mr. Palmer is retiring
from Ontario Ladies College/TrafalgarCastle School. Overtheyears, he instilled
a love of History in many of his students with his enthusiasm, knowledge,
creativityandsenseofhumour. Hisefforts indebatingdatebackto 1970 andhave
contributed to a generation ofyoung women who can speak with confidence in
