On theCover ACentennial- In 1916,an historic documentwas returned toWestford “Therehasrecentlycome intothepossessionofthetown libraryaveryvaluablepaper datingbackto 1774.. “The paper was called a Solemn League and Covenant. It has the original signatures of207 citizensofWestfordatthat time. Justbefore itwasdrawn up, GreatBritainhad passed the obnoxious Boston port bill, closing up the port of Boston and stopping business. “There is a bit ofa story about it. It was presented to Westford libraryby Miss Mary Alice Tenney ofRoxbury. It came to herwith other family papers and after showing it to the president ofthe Colonial Society in Boston she decided to return it to the town from which it originally came. When Jack chose not to run for a fourth term, the Selectmen's reportinthe 2001AnnualTown Reportnoted, "Jack Wrobel retired from the Board of We Selectmen after nine years of service. will miss his creative approach to problem solving especially in preserving open space as his participation in the Drew Farm and Picking Farm preservation efforts amply demonstrate." Jack was a member of the Drew Development Committee from 1987-1994 and the Drew Negotiating Committee in 1996 which resulted in the town meeting approving an agricultural re- striction on the former Drew Farms on Boston Road. That same year, Jack joined the Picking/Gould Farm Negotiating Committee that brought the article to town meeting to conserve the property nowknown as Meadowbrook Farm. After a three year "retirement," Jack was elected to the Board ofTrustees ofthe J.V. Fletcher Library in 2004 andserved nineyears.
