Manyresidentswerefortunate andproudtohearJeffspeakabout Salisbury'scommunityspiritandfamilyvaluesduringhisannounce- ment as candidate for Governor ofour state. Jeffhas been in public service for seventeen years. In the past he has been New Hampshire's Attorney General, the United States At- torney for New Hampshire, and the principal Associate DeputyAt- torney General ofthe United States. He is currentlythe lead partner in the Manchester office ofa Boston and NewHampshire-based law firm, Choate, Hall and Stewart. Jeffis a greatambassador for oursmall town, andwe are thankfiil he andhis familymake Salisburytheirhome. BOSTON POST CANE Recipient: Arthur John Schaefer Sr. Presented Boston Post Cane on June 23, 2000 TheSelectmennamedArthurJohnSchaeferSr.asour"OldestCiti- zen" and presented him with the Boston Post Cane and a plaque to commemoratetheoccasion.Mr.SchaeferwasbornJuly27, 1906,and has lived in the area for 50+ years with his family. He has been very active in many town organizations. Some of them include being a memberoftheBartlettGrangeforover60years,andservingasGrange masterandtreasurer. He isa 25+ year memberofthe SalisburyCon- gregational Community Church, and served as a church deacon. He hasbeenPoliceChief,DeputyForestFireWarden,FireCommissioner andFireChief,andwasinstrumentalinbuildingthenewfirestation. Mr. Schaefer and his familyowned and operated a store and gas sta- tionthatusedtobelocatedacross fromthefirestation. HeisaWorld War II veteran, and a member oftheAndoverAmerican Legion.We congratulateMr.Schaeferonhismanyaccomplishmentsandhisyears ofservice to our town. BOSTON POST CANE Recipient: Mildred Otto Presented Boston Post Cane on October 21, 2000 The Selectmen named Mildred Otto as our"Oldest Citizen" and presentedherwiththeBoston PostCaneandaplaquetocommemo- rate the occasion. Mrs. Otto was born June 19, 1910 in New York City. She was raised byher grandmother in Fitchburg, Massachusetts and movedto EastAndover, NewHampshirewhen shewas ten. She moved to Salisbury approximately five years ago. Mildred is very active with the Salisbury Congregational Community Church and the PenacookSeniorCenter.Mrs. Ottohastwo children,five grand- children and six great-grandchildren.
