Origin: Chichester is one of seven towns granted in 1727 when New Hampshire was still a part of
Massachusetts. As were several other towns, it was named in honor ofThomas Pelham
Holies, Duke of Newcastle, Earl of Chichester and England's Secretary of State.
Demographics: 2007 Census: 2,528 residents. The median age is 38.0. Total number of
household units is 988.
Population Density 2007: 117 persons per square mile of land area. Chichester contains 21.2
square miles of land area and 0.1 square miles of inland water area.
