and analyses existing systems for enforcing sentences of imprisonment
imposedbyinternationalcriminalcourtsandmakesrecommendationsfor
thestrategicandstructuraldevelopmentoftheinternationalpenalsystem.
Inparticular,itadvocatesaresocialisation-focusedinternationalpenalpolicy
deliveredusingrestorativejusticemodalitiespost-convictionandthecrea-
tion of an accountable international prison system. Singly or combined,
thesedevelopmentswillcontributetotheinstitutionalisationoftheinterna-
tionalpenalsystemandenhancetheinternationalnatureofthesanction,
internationalcontroloverthewayinternationalpunishmentisenforcedand
theequaltreatmentofinternationalprisoners.Thesedevelopmentswillalso
helptoensurethatinternationalpunishmentisprincipledandprogressive
andimplementedinahumaneandeffectivemanner.
