The primary implementation of this method involves W W administration with the use of TCI pumps. Target controlled orldorld infusion involves the use of a controlled syringe pump – which C C oo automatically regulates the rate of infusion of the drug. This nn gg method of anaesthesia has already been approved in Europe rere ss and Asia – which comes with the background of anaesthetic- s os o related mortality rates – standing at approximately .01 percent in f Tf T oo developed countries and between 1 and 10 percent in developing tata countries. (WHO Guidelines for Safe Surgery 2009). l Inl In The first two WorldSIVA meetings were held in Venice, Italy, in travtrav ee 2007 and in Berlin, Germany in 2009. Since then, there have nn oo uu been many exciting new developments in TIVA-TCI. ss A A nn At the two previous congresses, over 600 professionals from aa ee diverse fields of anesthesia enjoyed a stimulating scientific and sthsth social program. We expect a similar number of participants eses at the Singapore Congress and an equally inspiring program. ia &ia & Updates on present evidenced-based research and medicine will T T aa be covered by world-renowned experts and there will be ample rgrg ee time for discussion during the workshops. t Ct C oo The scientific program is designed to meet the aims of ntrontro WorldSIVA, which is "devoted to improving the standard llelle of intravenous anaesthesia and intravenous anaesthesia d Ind In delivery systems, including target and feedback controlled fufu ss infusion technology"; it will consist of plenary sessions, topical ioio nn workshops, oral and poster presentations. This third congress in the series should yet again prove to promote the clinical application of existing knowledge and the acquisition of new knowledge by bringing together clinicians, scientists, and educators from around the world who practice, study, and teach intravenous anaesthetics. As TIVA-TCI can be considered an autopilot method in the regulation of the application of anaesthetics – by working on its promotion – together we can develop a safer surgical environment. I greatly look forward to welcoming you to Singapore and to a very successful congress.
