Introduction Thisreportpresentsmapsthatshowthedistributionof growingstockandsawtimbervolumesforthe26most importanttimberspeciesandspeciesgroupsintheEast- ernUnitedStates.Themapswerepreparedthroughthe jointeffortsoftheForestInventoryandAnalysis (FIA) UnitsatthefourUSDAForestServiceExperimentStations — intheEast theSouthern(SO), theSoutheastern(SE),the Northeastern(NE), andtheNorthCentral (NC)Forest ExperimentStations. Themapsrepresentanewandsomewhatexperimental methodforpresentingtheresultsofstatewideforest inventories.Thepurposeofanytimberinventoryisto describethetreesonsomeareaintermsthataremeaning- fultopotentialusers.
