I did, I've done everything that I wanted. And it was more than I thought it would be. I will leave my mark so everyone will know I was here." -Beyonce Dedication Susan Robertson Mrs. Susan Robertson began her journey in education 20 years ago but if you ask her she says that she has spent her whole life educating. After getting married and having children she was home, bored, and decided to take the teaching exam. She passed, and her journey and impact began. She focuses her attention on the success of students and in her own words “at the end of the day I ask myself 3 questions, Who did I miss?, Why did I miss them? And how will I reach them tomorrow?” This care and passion she has for her studem is the driving force in her education success. Some of her favorite memories that she can recall are when hei former students return and thank her for preparing them for college and life with the skills she taught them in class. The success of students throughout life is what she considers to be her greatest accomplishment anc the difference that she makes in a students path is her greatest pride. The writing and life skills that student take from her class are lasting impressions that they carry with them forever. The advice that she would liki to leave all her students with is that you must “participate in your education” to succeed. Good luck Mrs.Robertson. Enjoy your time to relax after your impactful and successful career. Susan Miller Dr. Susan Miller began her career in education at Middleborough High School 25 years ago with dear friend Charlene Bizinkauskas. She always had a dream of becoming a teacher since she was in elementary school. She loved the idea of “making a difference” and felt like it was her calling. As a teenager she volunteered at John Jay Homestead because she loved the idea of bringing history to peoples lives who may not otherwise like the subject. One of her favorite teaching moments is when the ninth graders had the opportunity to sail on a historic schooner. They were able to fully grasp the immigrant experience as they sailed around the Elizabeth Islands. The advice that she wants to leave with her students is “you need to have the mind-set that you will never give up and never give in.” Preparing students to make the next move and feel like they are ready for college is what she considers one of her greatest accomplishments. Some of her other amazing accomplishments were being nominated and awarded 2016 Massachusetts History Teacher of the Year and receiving the Gilder Lehrman National History Teacher of the Year award. Charlene Bizinkauskas Ms. Charlene Bizinkauskas has been teaching for more than 31 years, and 25 of those years have been spent at Middleboro High School. She realized she wanted to become a teacher as early as elementary school, after watching her 3rd grade teacher and thinking to herself that this is what she wanted to do. She ended up at MHS after the then superintendent of Middleboro Public Schools overheard her conservation with the building department, and told her about a vacancy at the middle school with the 8th grade. Mrs. Biz, as everyone calls her, has worked as a special education teacher, primarily co¬ teaching in the English department. Her dedication to all of the students is unwavering, and she can be found after school working with kids almost every day. She believes that the best part of her job and what she enjoys the most, is, “being a witness to students who improve and grow and mature and Anally Agure out what they’re going to do for the rest of their lives.” Joan McKenna Joan McKenna started her career at Middleboro High School as an English Teacher. She has now been an English teacher for 17 years. After getting a degree in writing concentration from Umass Dartmouth college she decided to go into the English teaching Aeld and work at MHS. Her favorite part of teaching is “by far getting to know her students.”Joan is known for creating thoughtful journal prompts for her students to get activated before class. For example, “ Write about sometime that you thought you were unfairly accused of something.” She also likes to do activities such as a treasure hunts. This is when the students move around in the classroom and ask each other pre-reading questions for a piece of literature. These are just two activities of McKenna’s classes that make them enjoyable. Other courses that she teach include both English 3 CP and Honors, MCAS Preparation for Sophomores and English 2 CP. She says that she enjoyed her time here at Middleborough High School and hopes the best for everyone. 2 In Memory of Scott "Nelly" Nelson The 2017 yearbook was dedicated to Scott Nelson, one of the three people who retired at the end of last year. It is with great sadness that this year, the class of 2018 and the entire MHS community remember Scott Nelson as his life was cut short less than one month after his retirement. Nelly's dedication to the school, the students, the town, and his colleagues will always be remembered. I i * fl •; •jJr1 N^V 'v^^B r *•-- ■ ■ | frev 1 I 1 I ■ If 1 A. Note From •.
