Gabrius,nultipunctatusisthefirstJapanesememberbearingninepuncturesintheinner row on itspronotum. TheGabriusfaunaofJapanwasstudiedbySHARP(1874, l889),CAMERON(1930), BERNHAUER(1939), TOTTENHAM(1940)andSMETANA(1960,1973,1984),andfifteen specieshavebeenrecordedup tothepresent. ThroughthecourtesyofMr.]waoOKAMOTO, I haverecentlyhadanopportunity to examine an interestingspeciesof thisgenus obtained at Anjtlkyo in Hiroshima Prefecture,WestJapan. Onthisoccasion,IexaminedmanyspecimensoftheJapanese speciescollectedat variouslocalities. Afteracarefulstudy,itbecameclearthatthespeciescollectedatAnjukyoandtwo morespeciesfoundincentralHonshuandHokkaidoarenewtoscience. Theywill bedescribedinthepresent paper. The following abbreviations are used in this paper: HL -greatest length of head; HW - greatest width of head, including eyes; CL - longitudinal diameter of eye; Pc -lengthofpostocular area;PL- length of pronotum, measured along the mid-line; PW-greatest width of pronotum; F_L-greatest length of elytra; EW- greatest widthofelytra. Head and pro- 86 YasutoshiSHIBATA notum piceousblack to black; elytra, abdomen and antennaedark brown; mouth partsandlegsbrownishyellow,innerportionoftibiaesomewhatdarkened. Bodylength:7.0-7.5mm. Headsubquadrate,slightlylonger thanwide(HL/HW=1.09),widestjustbefore posterioranglesand indistinctlynarrowedanteriad, withlateralsidesslightlyarcuate; fronstriangularlyandshallowly impressed, thediscalmost impunctate;medianin- terocular punctureswidelyseparated, nearly fourtimesasdistant fromeachotheras fromocularpunctures, postero-1aterallywithsparseandratherstrongsetiferouspunc- tures; surfacecoveredwithmicroscopic transversely lineategroundsculpture. Eyes smallthoughfeeblyprutrudingfrom lateral linesofhead,itslongitudinaldiameter a little smaller than the length of postocular area (CL/Pc=0.76). Antennae long, almost reaching the posterior margin of pronotum, and hardly thickened towards apex, basal three segments polished, the remainings opaque, 1st segment dilated apically,about3.5timesaslongasbroad,2ndaboutahalfaslongas1st (2nd/1st= 0.48)andabouttwiceaslongasbroad,3rdelongate,alittlelongerthan2nd(3rd/2nd= 1.30),4thto10thsubequa1inlengthtooneanotherand feeblydilatedtowardseach apex,4thto6thgraduallyincreasinginwidth,7thto10theachaboutaslongasbroad (width/length=1.03),theapicalmostsubacuminatetowardsthetip,alittlelonger than 10th(lith/10th=].38)andabout l5timesaslongasbroad. Pronotumoblong,alittlelonger thanwide(PL/PW=1.24)andaboutaswideas head(HW/PW=1.00),widestbehindanterioranglesandslightlynarrowedposterior- ly; lateral sides almost straight as seen from above; anterior margin broadly rounded, thoughsubtruncatedatmiddle, posterior margin feebly arcuate; anterior anglesobtuseandnotvisiblefromabove,posterior anglesnarrowlyrounded;discon eithersideof themiddlewithasomewhatirregular rowofsevenpunctures,andout- sidethisserieswiththreeor fourpunctures;surfacecoveredwithveryfinemicroscopic transversely lineate groundsculpture. Scutellumlarge, triangular, finely and dense- 1ypuncturedandpubescent,surfacewiththesamegroundsculptureasonpronotum. Elytrasubtrapezoida1,somewhatdilatedposteriadandflatabove,slightly wider than long (EW/EL=1.07), anda little longer thanpronotum (EL/PL=1.31), con- siderablywiderthanpronotum(EW/PW=l.73);lateralsidesalmoststraight;posterior angles broadlyrounded;surfacefinelyanddenselypunctured, anddenselycovered with brownish pubescence decumbent backwards, devoid of microscopic ground sculpture. Abdomenelongate,slightlydilatedtowardsthe6thsegment whichisthewidest, 7thtotheextremitydistinctlynarrowed;surfacecoveredwithfineranddenserpunc- turesandpubescencethanonelytra;8thsterniteinmalesomewhatdeeplyandwidely emarginateatmiddleof posterior margin, whichbears numerous longand rather strongsetaebecominggraduallyshorterbothmediallyandlaterally. Legsrelatively long, protarsi thininbothsexes. Ingeneralappearance,thisnewspeciessomewhat resembles (J.unze11e'Isis BERNHAuER,butcanbereadilydistinguishedfromthelatterbythelargerandrobust body,differentstructureofmalegenitalorganandsecondarysexualcharactersofthe last abdominal sterniteinthemale. All thespecimensof thetypeserieswerefound fromheapsofwet fallen leaves accumulatedbythewateratthesidesofanarrowstream. 89 YasutoshiSHIBATA (iabriusmuMpunctatussp nov (Figs 6-11) Closelysimilar toG.okamoto1inexternal features,butcaneasilybedistinguished fromthelatter bythefollowingpoints: bodylargerandmorerobust; longitudinal diameter of eye muchsmaller than the length of postocular area (CL/Pc=0.62); innerdorsalrowof puncturesonpronotum composedof eight to nineones, usually nine;elytraabout asbroadas long(EW/EL=0.99); differentlyshapedmalegenital organandsecondarysexualcharacterofabdominalsterniteinmale. This peculiar newspecies can beeasily distinguished from the other Japanesespecies by havingnine punctures in the inner row on the pronotum and uniquelyshapedmalegenitalia. Variation in thedorsal rowsof punctureson thepronotum isas follows: ofthe eightspecimensof the typeseries, three(2 1 )lackonepunctureon oneside, , and one(1 ) on bothsides. ss Ga(cid:0)加r J 'aponlcM s nov. (Figs.12-16) ThepresentnewspeciesalsocloselyresemblesG.okamoto1ingeneralappearance, but differs from it in the followingpoints: body little larger insize; head oval and a somewhat longer than broad (HL/HW=1.20), eyessmall and flat, its longitudinal diameter muchsmaller than thelengthof postocular area(CL/Pc=0.64), punctures of the inner dorsal row on pronotum six in number; elytraslightly longer than pronotum (EL/PL=1.19); and differentlyshapedmalegenital organandsecondary sexual character of 8th abdominalsternite in male. ,- 16 15 Figs.12-l6. Malegenitalorganrather large,asymmetrical,wellsclerotizedandverypeculiar; medianlobeproducedintoalongandslender projectionwhichismoreor lessasym- metrica1; fusedparamere relativelyshort andnarrow, withtheapicalpart divided into two fairlynarrowlobeswidelyseparated fromeachother; black tubercleson the undersideofparamererangedalongthemedianpart ofapicalmargin. The present newspeciescanbeeasilydistinguished from theother Jap- anesespeciesbythehypertrophiedapicalpartofthemedian lobeofmalegenitalia. 要 約 部11,ii・利: 日本産ホソコ力'シラハネカクシ属(Gabrtus)の3新種. - - 1.1?、産ホソコカ'シラノ、ネ カクシ属の研究は, SHARP(1874,1889),CAMERON(1930),BERNHAUER(1939),TOTTENHAM(1940)お よびSMETANA(l960,1973, l984) らによって行われ, 現在までに15極が記録されている.そのうち, 7極は前胸背板中央両側の点刻列が6個のもので, 8種は7個のものである. この属に含まれる種は, いずれも体長10mm以下の小型で, 外見はコカシラハネカクシ(」Phl1o'1- t/,us)属のものによく 似ているが, 下唇肢第2節は先端に向かって膨らみ, 第3節は細く短いこと, および雄の前脚付節は拡張しないなどの点で識別できる. 今回, 日本各地からの標本を調べていたところ, 本属のなかでも大型できわめて特徴のある雄交尾 器をもつ3種をみつけることができた. そのうちの1極は, 日本から記録のなかった前1],,1背板の中央 両側に9点刻(8-9個)をもつ極で, 残りの2和 それぞれ7点刻, 6点刻のものである. 精査の結 果いずれも新種と認められたので, 下記のとおり命名記載した. 92 Yasutoshi SHIBATA オカモトホソコガシラハネカクシGabriusokamoto1は, 前月?背板の点刻列が7個で, 雄交尾器は幅 広く, 側片は先端に向かって拡張するが先端から約1/4のところで鋭くえぐられ, 先端裏面両側の黒 色突起が7-8個であることなどの特徴により他種との識別は容易である. オオホソコガシラハネカクシ(Jabriusmultipunctatusは, 日本産既知種のなかでは最大で, 前胸背 板の点刻列は9個(8-9個)からなる. 雄交尾器側11-はきわめて小さく, 先端はわずかに二製し, 先 端裏面両側に5個の黒色突起があるなどの点で識別は容易である. ヤー、トホソコガシラハネカクシGabriusJaponicusは, 前胸背板の点刻列が6個で, 雄交尾器中葉 はいちじるしく細長く左右不対称である点が, 他の日本産の種とはいちじるしく異なり, きわめて容 易に識別することができる.
