I Proceeding. of the Third International Sympo.ium of Afro-Alian Society of Nemalologitts, April 16 -19 '98, Coimbalore PREFACE Finally the complete proceedings of the full papers presented at the Third International Symposium of the Afro-Asian Society of Nematologists is brought into shape and is published. It has taken me more time on completing the same than I had thought of due to financial constraints. However, I did not want to further prolong this period. This book contains a vast diversity of subjects of varied interested nematologists from all over India and few firm other countries. It depicts well the important nematodes in our agricultural system and the loss caused to the products. I take this opportunity to thank all the nematologists who made it possible to attent the symposium in spite of their busy schedule and present these papers. I have composed all the papers to form a single book, such that it will be useful other nematology workers in future. It is my hope that this book will serve to conduct future meetings and publications. I would specially like to place on records my sincere thanks to Dr. N. Somasekar, Dr. P. Sundara Raju, Dr. K. Sujatha Paul. Mrs. C. Vani, Mrs. Ohara lothi, Mr. T. Kathiresan and Mrs. M. Neela who had all helped me immensely in conducting the symposium and also in putting this compilation into proper shape. I would further like to thank our Director General (ICAR) Dr. R.S. Paroda, late, Dr. B.K. Tripathi, Director, Sugarcane Breeding Institute, for the timely help rendered to me in conducting of this international symposium. Also I express my deepest appreciation to all my family members for the full support and their patience during this symposium. Usba K.
