Moore's papers are reproduced in this volume. Most of these deal with Moore's work in west peninsular Florida, but the first three describe work in central and northeast Florida. His many research expeditions in east peninsular Florida and in northwest Florida are included in two other volumes in the Classics in Southeastern Archaeology series. Smith Jr. and several of his employees (Heather Pearcy, Steve Amiss, Charles Branham, Gerald Ferguson, and Kim Heinz) were helpful in answering questions, searching databases, and allowing me work space on a number of occasions. I would also like to express my appreciation to Joan P. Morris, Archives Supervisor at the Florida Photographic Collection of the Florida State Archives, for the photograph reproduced as Figure 2 in the introduction. Cynthia Cerrato was of great help in providing details about Clarence B. Moore, the boats he used, and the dates he was in Florida. Robert J. Austin, George M. Luer, and B. William Burger answered questions I had about sites and shared knowledge about Moore's work in the Tampa Bay and Charlotte Harbor areas. Margo Schwadron kindly provided copies of unpublished letters referring to Moore and his
