Afteradisagreement onecclesiastical appointmentswith these- condTokugawa shogun, he wasbanished in 1629 to a far nor- thern province. Coming under ageneral amnesty on the death oftheshogun,hereturnedtosocietythreeyearslatertobe,among other things, a confidant of the third Tokugawa shogun.
