We have retained the marks that distinguish between glottal and guttural sounds within terms but have eliminated the intial ayin from proper names. Arabic speak- ers should have no difficulty recognizing the phonetic value of the English letters, and it is hoped that the omission of the extra marks will make the Arabic terms more reader-friendly for those unfamiliar with the language.
