The theme for the night was "The Army," but the soldiers on leave bore a resemblance only in uniform as they "lid the hokey pokey, skated to popular Christian songs and played video games. HIT THE ROAD JACK! Poking their heads out of a modern day convertible, these students appear anxious to head off to San Francisco as part of Northern Minnesota Student Evangelists and Gospel Trio. This photograph was included in Dr. Riley's personal album and is dated 1911 when our school was known as The Northwestern Bible & Missionary Training School. Two decades after Dr. W.B. Riley, first Baptist Church in Minneapolis, started teaching thirty-five students in day classes, the /922 student body had to step outside for an extended family photograph. Warmly dressed in the fashions of the day with conservative-looking smiles, the men and women of the Bible School posed in front of the recently completed Jackson Hall. Most of them on be seen holding the Bible, in gloved hands, which was the main text book. Once Upon ATime vick leveleitcie or 95 yeas On October 2, 1902, resulting from students who sought instruction several hours a day, Dr. Riley called together a small group of laymen of different denominations. He laid before them the plan from which was born Northwestern Bible and Missionary Training School. A liberal arts program was added in 1944 and the school grew. Through ups and downs, including a brief period during the 1960's in which the school closed, Northwestern has stretched and continued to where we know it to be today with an enrollment of 1350. We are not bound to our past, but it's still part of the story of who we are, how we got here and where we are going. "I just transferred, and [the history] of the school makes me realize that 1 am part of more than just the here and now," stated junior Tim Jahnke. Stephanie luetgen displayed her artistic abilities as she spread herseff out in an end lounge to draw. Sketching a picture relieved Stephanie from the overwhelming feeling of on coming exams and impending deadlines. LAYING DOWN ON THE JOB The stress from studying is tiring for Nick Simat as he layson a couch in the Robertson student center and gets comfortable. When a student studied, he or she would stretch out in a chair, couch or on the floor and prepare for the long night ahead. 6 ACADEMICS
