ISBN-10: 0692238379 ISBN-13: 978-0692238370 THE POWER OF PRAYER Channeling Brain Waves Through Dhikr AHMED HULUSI www.ahmedhulusi.org/en/ Translated by ALIYA ATALAY Transliteration by RASHAD ALI ABOUT THE COVER The black background of the front cover represents darkness and ignorance, while the white color of the letters represents light and knowledge. The image is a Kufi calligraphy of the Word of Unity: “La ilaha illallah; Muhammad Rasulullah” which means, “There is no concept such as ‘god’, there is only that which is denoted by the name Allah, and Muhammad (SAW) is the Rasul of this understanding.” The placement of the calligraphy, being on top and above everything else on the page, is a symbolic representation of the predominant importance this understanding holds in the author’s life. The green light, reflecting from the window of the Word of Unity, opens up from the darkness into luminosity to illustrate the light of Allah’s Rasul. This light is embodied in the book’s title through the author’s pen and concretized as the color white, to depict the enlightenment the author aims to attain in this field. As the knowledge of Allah’s Rasul disseminates, those who are able to evaluate this knowledge attain enlightenment, which is represented by the white background of the back cover. “Prayer is the weapon of believers.” Muhammad (saw) “Inquiry is half of knowledge.” Muhammad (saw) “The greatest obstacle preventing man from seeing the truth is his prejudice.” Ahmed Hulusi الل لَاإ ها لٰإ لَا ه ِ ِ La ilaha illAllah There is no god, only Allah Rabbi annee massani ash-shayṭaanu binuṣubin wa `adhaabin rabbi a`oodhu bika min hamazaati ash-shayṭaani wa a`oodhu bika rabbi an yaḥḍurooni wa ḥifẓan min kulli shayṭaanin maaridin My Rabb (The reality of the Names comprising my essence)! Satan (the internal mechanism (ego) that promotes the illusory existence of the inexistent and veils the Absolute Reality) is distressing and tormenting me. My Rabb, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of Satan, and I seek refuge in You from the presence of Satanic influences around me. And We have provided protection from all rejected Satans.1 A`aoodhu bi wajhi l-llahil kareem wa kalimaati l-ta’ammatillati la yujaawiz huna barun wa la fa’ajirun min sharri maa yanzilu mina s-samaa-i wa maa y`aruju feeha wa min sharri maa dhara fee-l ardhi wa mayakhrujoo minha wa min fitanil layli wan nahari illa tariqan yatruku bikhayrin ya Rahman… I seek refuge in the face of Allah (in that which the attributes of Allah become manifest), the Karim (the exceedingly generous and bountiful), and in all His Names, nothing good or bad can attack them. I seek protection in RAHMAN, the source of all potentials, from that which ascends to the heavens (from provocative thoughts) and that which descends from the heavens (from thoughts that conjure doubt and suspicion), from that which is produced from the plane of perceived manifestation (ardh) (that which emanates from corporeality) and grows out of it (bodily demands and desires), from the provocations of the day (our internal life) and the night (the outside world), and from that which knocks on the door at night (instinct), except if it is with good intent.2 1 Based on verses 38.Saad: 41 – 23.Mu’minun: 97-98 – 37.Saffat: 7. 2 Please refer to the chapter ‘Beneficial Prayers’ for further information.
