In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All- َّ َّ َّ
مِ يحِ رلٱ (cid:15)رلٱِ (cid:12)ٱ (cid:11) 1
merciful.
َ ۡ ۡ
All praisebelongs to Allah, Lordof alltheworlds, يَ مِ لٰعَ لٱ بِّ رَ ِ (cid:12)َّ ِ دُ مۡ لَ ٱ 2
َّ َّ
theAll-beneficent, theAll-merciful, مِ يحِ رلٱ (cid:15)رلٱ 3
ّ ۡ َ َ
Master of the Dayof Retribution. نيِلٱ مِ وي كِ ِلٰم 4
ِ
You [alone] do we worship, and to You [alone] do ُ َ ۡ َ َ َّ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ َّ
يعِ تسن كاي- دبعن كايِإ 5
weturn forhelp.
ۡ
َ َ ۡ ُ َ َ ّ َ ۡ
Guideuson thestraightpath, ميِقتسملٱ طٰرصِ لٱ اندِ هٱ 6
َ
َ َ ۡ ۡ َ َ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ۡ َ ۡ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ َّ َ َ
Aو مهِ يلع بِ وضغملٱ ي ِ غ مِهيلع تمعنأ نيِلٱ طٰرصِ
the path of those whom You have blessed — such

as havenot incurred Your wrath, nor are astray. َ ّ َّ
يِلآضلٱ

ملا
This isthe Book, there is nodoubt in it, a guidance يَ قِ تَّ مُ لۡ ِلّ ىدٗ هُ ِهۛ يفِ بۛ َ يۡ رَ Aَ بُ تٰ َ كِ لۡ ٱ كَ ِلٰذَ 2
tothe Godwary,
ۡ ُ َ ۡ َ َ َّ َ َ ٰ َ َّ َ ُ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ُ ۡ ُ َ َّ
مهنٰ قزر اممِ و ةولصلٱ نوميِقيو بِ يغلٱِب نونمِ ؤي نيِلٱ
whobelieveinthe Unseen, maintainthe prayer, and

spend out of whatWe haveprovided forthem; َ ُ ُ
نوقِفني
َ ۡ َ َ ُ ٓ َ َ َ ۡ َ َ ُ ٓ َ َ ُ ۡ ُ َ َّ َ
andwhobelievein whathas been sent downto you كِلبق نمِ لزِ نأ امو كلِإ لِزنأ امِب نونمِ ؤي نيِلٱو
andwhatwas sent down before you, andare certain 4
of theHereafter. َ ُ ُ ۡ ُ َ َ
نونِقوي مه ِ ةرخِ bٱبو
ِ
TwhhoosaerefotlhloewfeltihceitioruLs.ord’s guidance and it is they نَ وحُ ِلفۡ مُ ۡلٱ مُ هُ كَ ِئلٰٓ َ وْ ُأوَ ۖمۡ ِهِبّ رَّ نمِّ ىدٗ هُ gَٰ َ كَ ِئلٰٓ َ وْ ُأ 5

َ ۡ ُ ۡ ُ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ ۡ َ َ ٌ ٓ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َّ َّ 2:
As for the faithless, it is the same to them whether A مهرذِ نت مل مأ مهترذنأء مِهيلع ءاوس اورفك نيِلٱ نِإ Al-
you warn them or do not warn them, they will not Baqara
havefaith. َ ُ ۡ ُ 6
نونمِ ؤي
286⁄
ٞ َ ٰ َ ۡ ٰ َ ۡ َ ٰٓ َ َ َ ۡ ۡ َ َٰ َ َ ۡ ُ ُ َٰ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ
Allah has set a seal on their hearts and their ۖ ةوشغِ مهِ رِ صبأ gو ۖمهِ عِ مس gو مِهِبولق g (cid:12)ٱ متخ
hearing, and there is a blindfold on their sight, and 7
there isagreat punishmentforthem. ٞ َ ٌ َ َ ۡ ُ َ َ
ميظِ ع باذع مهلو
ُ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ َّ َّ َ َ ُ ُ َ َ َّ َ َ
Among the people are those who say, ‘We have مه امو ر ِ خِ bٱ مِ ولٱِبو ِ (cid:12)ٱِب انماء لوقي نم سِ الٱ نمِ و

faith in Allah and the Last Day,’ but they have no
faith. َ ۡ ُ R3
يِنمِ ؤمِب
ۡ ُ َ ُ َ ٓ َّ َ ُ َ ۡ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َّ َ َ َّ َ ُ ٰ َ ُ
They seek to deceive Allah and those who have مهسفنأ Aِإ نوعدي امو اونماء نيِلٱو (cid:12)ٱ نوعدِ خي
faith, yet they deceive no one but themselves, but 9
theyarenot aware. َ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ َ
نورعشي امو
َ
َ ُۢ ٌ َ َ ۡ ُ َ َ ٗ َ َ ُ َّ ُ ُ َ َ َ ٞ َ َّ ُ ُ
There is a sickness in their hearts; then Allah امِب ملِ أ باذع مهلوۖ اضرم (cid:12)ٱ مهدازف ضرم مِهِبولق فِ
increased their sickness, and there is a painful

punishment for them because of the lies they used َ ُ ۡ َ ْ ُ َ
totell. نوبذِ كي اونك
ُ ۡ َ َ َّ ْ ٓ ُ َ َ ۡ ْ ُ ۡ ُ َ ۡ ُ َ َ َ
نن امنِإ اولاق ضِ ‡لٱ فِ اودسِ فت A مهل ليقِ اذ-
When theyaretold, ‘Donot causecorruptionon the

earth,’ theysay, ‘We areonly reformers!’ َ ُ ۡ ُ
نوحِلصم
Behold! They are themselves the agents of نَ ورُ عُ شۡ َي Aَّ نكِ ٰلَ وَ نَ ودُ سِ فۡ مُ ۡلٱ مُ هُ مۡ هُ نَّ ِإ ٓAَ أَ 12
corruption, but theyarenot aware.
َ
ٓ َ َ ُ ۡ ُ ْ ٓ ُ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ ٓ َ َ ْ ُ َ ۡ ُ َ َ َ
And when they are told, ‘Believe like the people امك نمِ ؤنأ اولاق سالٱ نماء امك اونمِ اء مهل ليقِ اذ-
whohavebelieved,’ they say, ‘Shall webelieve like
the fools who have believed?’ Behold! They are َ ُ َ ۡ َ َّ َٰ َ ُ ٓ َ َ ُّ ُ ُ ۡ ُ َّ ٓ َ َ ُ ٓ َ َ ُّ َ َ َ 13
themselvesthefools, but theydonot know. نوملعي A نكِ لو ءاهفسلٱ مه مهنِإ Aأۗ ءاهفسلٱ نماء
When they meet the faithful, they say, ‘We مۡ هِ ِنيطِ ٰيَ شَ Žَٰ ِإ ْ اوۡ َلخَ اَذ- انَّ مَ اءَ ْ اوٓ ُلاَقْ اوُنمَ اءَ نَ يِلَّ ٱْ اوقُ َل اَذ-
believe,’ but when they are alone with their devils,

theysay, ‘We are with you; we were only deriding َ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ َّ ۡ ُ َ َ َّ ْ ٓ ُ َ
[them].’ نوءِزهتسم نن امنِإ مكعم انِإ اولاق
It is Allah who derides them, and leaves them َ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ ۡ ُ ُّ ُ َ َ ۡ ُ ۡ َ ۡ َ ُ َّ
bewilderedin their rebellion. نوهمعي مِهِنٰيغط فِ مهدميو مِهِب ئِزهتسي (cid:12)ٱ 15
تحَ برَ امَ فَ ىٰ دَ هُ ۡلٱب ةَ لَ ٰلَ ضَّ لٱ ْ اوُ تَ َ شۡ ٱ نَ يِلَّ ٱ كَ ئلٰٓ َ وْ ُأ
They are the ones who bought error for guidance, ِ ِ ِ
so their trade did not profit them, nor were they 16
guided. َ َ ۡ ُ ْ ُ َ َ َ ۡ ُ ُ َ ٰ َ ّ
نيدِ تهم اونك امو مهترجِت

ُ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ ٓ َ َ ٓ َّ َ َ ٗ َ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ َّ َ َ َ ۡ ُ ُ َ َ 2:
Theirparableisthatof onewholighted atorch, and ۥلوح ام تءاضأ املف اران دقوتسٱ يِلٱ لثمك مهلثم
ِ Al-
whenit had lit up all around him, Allah took away
their light, and left them sightless in a manifold َ ُ ۡ ُ َّ ٰ َ ُ ُ ۡ ُ َ َ َ َ ۡ ُ ُ َّ َ َ َ B1aq7ara
darkness. نوصِ بي A تٖ ملظ فِ مهكرتو مهِ رِ ونِب (cid:12)ٱ بهذ
286⁄
Deaf, dumb, andblind, theywill not comeback. نَ وعُ جِ رۡ َي Aَ مۡ هُ فَ مٞ ۡ عُ مٌ كۡ ُب ۢ مُّ صُ 18
َ
َ ُ َ ۡ َ ٞ ۡ َ َ ٞ ۡ َ َ ٞ َ ُ ُ ٓ َ َّ َ ّ ّ َ َ ۡ
ٰ
نولعي قربو دعرو تملظ ِهيفِ ِءامسلٱ نمِ بٖ ِيصك و أ
Or that of a rainstorm from the sky, wherein is
dfianrgkenresss,inthtuhnedirereaarnsd dluigehtntoingt:hethethyunpduetrcltahpesir, (cid:12)ُ َّ ٱوَ تِۚ وۡ مَ ۡلٱ ر َ ذَ حَ قِ عِ ٰوَ صَّ لٱ نَ مِّ مِهِناَذاءَ ٓفِ مۡ هُ عَ ِبٰصَ َأ 19
apprehensive of death; and Allah besieges the
faithless. َ َ ۡ ُ
ٰ
نيرِ ِفكلٱِب «يِم
َ َ
ْ ۡ َ َّ ُ َ َ ٓ َ ٓ َ َّ ُ ۡ ُ َ ٰ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ َ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ َ
The lightning almost snatches away their sight: ِهيفِ اوشم مهل ءاضأ امك ۖمهرصبأ فطي قبلٱ داكي
whenever it shines for them, they walk in it, and َ
whenthedarkness fallsuponthem, theystand. Had ۡ ۡ َ َ َ َ َ ُ َّ َ ٓ َ ۡ َ َ ْ ُ َ ۡ ۡ َ َ َ َ ۡ ٓ َ
Allah willed, He would have taken away their مهِ عِ مسِب بهل (cid:12)ٱ ءاش و لو اوۚ ماق مِهيلع ملظأ اذ- 20
htheianrgins.g and sight. Indeed Allah has power over all ٞ َ ۡ َ ّ ُ َٰ َ َ َّ َّ ۡ ٰ َ ۡ َ َ
ر يدِ ق ٖءش كِ g (cid:12)ٱ نِإ ۚمهِ رِ صبأو
َ َّ َ ۡ ُ َ َ َ َّ ُ ُ َّ َ ْ ُ ُ ۡ ُ َّ َ ُّ َ ٰٓ َ
نمِ نيِلٱو مكقلخ يِلٱ مكبر اودبعٱ سالٱ اهيأي
O mankind! Worship your Lord, who created you

andthose who werebefore you, sothat youmay be
Godwary َ ُ َّ َ ۡ ُ َّ َ َ ۡ ُ ۡ َ R4
نوقتت مكلعل مكِلبق
َ َ َ َ َ ٗ ٓ َ َ ٓ َ َّ َ ٗ َ َ َ ۡ ُ ُ َ َ َ َ َّ
نمِ لزنأو ءانِب ءامسلٱو اشٰرِف ض‡لٱ مكل لعج يِلٱ
—Hewhomadetheearth a place of repose foryou,
َ
and the sky a canopy, and He sends down water َ َ ۡ ُ َّ ٗ ۡ َ َ َّ َ َ َ ۡ َ ٗ ٓ َ ٓ َ َّ
fromthe sky and with it brings forth crops for your »ف ۖمكل اقزِر تِ ٰرملٱ نمِ ۦِهِب جرخأف ءام ِءامسلٱ 22
sustenance. So do not set up equals to Allah, while
youknow. َ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ َ ٗ َ َ َّ ْ ُ َ ۡ َ
نوملعت متنأو ادادنأ ِ (cid:12)ِ اولعت
ۡ
And if you are in doubt concerning what We have نمِّ ٖ ةرَ وسُ ِب ْ اوُتأفَ اَندِ بۡ عَ gَٰ َ الَ ۡ زَّ َن امَّ مِّ بٖ يۡ رَ فِ مۡ ُتنكُ ن-
sent downto Our servant, thenbring asurahlike it,

and invoke your helpers besides Allah, if you are َ ٰ َ ۡ ُ ُ َّ ُ ّ ُ َ ٓ َ َ ُ ْ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ّ
truthful. يقِ دِ ص متنك نِإ ِ (cid:12)ٱ نِ ود نمِ مكءادهش اوعدٱو ۦِهِلثمِ
َ ُ ُ َ َّ َ َّ ْ ُ َّ َ ْ ُ َ ۡ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ َّ َ
اهدوقو تلٱ ر الٱ اوقتٱف اولعفت نلو اولعفت مل نإف
But if you do not—and you will not—then beware ِ ِ
tphreepFarireedfwohrothseeffauitehllewssi.ll be humans and stones, َ ٰ َ ۡ ۡ َّ ُ ُ َ َ ۡ َ ُ َّ 24
نيرِفكلِل تدعِ أۖ ةراجِلٱو سالٱ
ِ

ٰ َّ َ ۡ ُ َ َّ َ ٰ َ ٰ َّ ْ ُ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َّ ّ َ َ
Andgivegoodnews to those whohavefaith and do تٖ نج مهل نأ تِ حِلصلٱ اولِمعو اونماء نيِلٱ ش ِ ِ بو
righteousdeeds, thatfor them shall begardens with ٗ ۡ ّ َ َ َ َ ۡ ْ ُ ُ َ َّ ُ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ 2:
streams running in them: whenever they are اقزر ٖ ةرمث نمِ اهنمِ اوقزر امك ۖ رٰهنلٱ اهِتت نمِ يرت
ِ ِ ِ Al-
provided with their fruit for nourishment, they will
say, ‘This is what we were provided before,’ and ۡ ُ َ َ ٗ ٰ َ َ ُ ْ ُ ُ َ ُ ۡ َ َ ۡ ُ َّ َ ٰ َ ْ ُ َ B2aq5ara
theyweregivensomethingresemblingit. There will مهلو ۖ اهِبشتم ۦِهِب اوتأو ۖ لبق نمِ انقِزر يِلٱ اذه اولاق
286⁄
be chaste mates for them, and they will remain
َ
therein [forever]. نَ ولُ ِ ٰخَ اهَ يفِ مۡ هُ وَ ۖ ٞةرَ هَّ طَ مُّ جٞ ٰوَ زۡ أ ٓ اهَ يفِ
َ َ ۡ َ َ َ ٗ َ ُ َ َّ ٗ َ َ َ ۡ َ َ ٓ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ َ َّ َّ
Indeed Allah is not ashamed to draw a parable ۚ اهقوف امف ةضوعب ام »ثم بِضي نأ ۦحِ تسي A (cid:12)ٱ نِإ
whether it is that of a gnat or something above it. َ َّ َّ َ َ ۡ ّ َّ ُّ َۡ ُ َّ َ َ ُ َ ۡ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َّ َّ َ َ
As for those who have faith, they know it is the نيِلٱ امأو ۖمِهِبر نمِ قلٱ هنأ نوملعيف اونماء نيِلٱ امأف 26
truth from their Lord; and as for the faithless, they
say, ‘What did Allah mean by this parable?’ ُّ ُ ٗ َ َ َ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ ٓ َ َ َ ُ ُ َ َ ْ ُ َ َ Hizb
Thereby He leads many astray, and thereby He ۦِهِب لضِ ي ۘ »ثم اذٰهِب (cid:12)ٱ دارأ اذام نولوقيف اورفك 2
guides many; and He leads no one astray thereby
except thetransgressors َ ٰ َ ۡ َّ ٓ ُّ ُ َ َ ٗ َ ۡ َ َ ٗ َ
يقِ سِ فلٱ Aِإ ۦِهِب لضِ ي امو اۚيِثك ۦِهِب يدِ هيو ايِثك
ٓ َ َ ُ َ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ َ َّ َ ۡ َ َ ُ ُ َ َ َّ
ام نوعطقيو ۦِهقِ ثٰ يمِ دِ عب نۢ مِ ِ (cid:12)ٱ دهع نوضقني نيِلٱ
—those who break the covenant made with Allah
aAfltlearhhahvaisngcopmlemdgaenddeidt stoolebmenljyo,inaendd, saenvdercwauhsaet مُ هُ كَ ِئلٰٓ َ وْ ُأ ضۚ ِ ‡لَ ۡ ٱ فِ نَ ودُ سِ فۡ يُ وَ لَ صَ وُي نَأ ٓۦِهِب (cid:12)ُ َّ ٱ ر َ مَ َأ 27
corruption on the earth—it is they who are the
losers. َ ُ ٰ َ ۡ
نوسِ خلٱ
َ َ
َّ ُ ۡ ُ َ ۡ َ ٗ َ ۡ ۡ ُ ُ َ َّ َ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ
How can you be unfaithful to Allah, [seeing that] مث ۖمكٰيحأف اتٰومأ متنكو ِ (cid:12)ٱِب نورفكت فيك
youwerelifeless andHegaveyoulife, thenHe will

make you die and then bring you to life, and then َ ُ َ ۡ ُ ۡ َ َّ ُ ۡ ُ ۡ ُ َّ ُ ۡ ُ ُ ُ
youwill bebrought back to Him? نوعجرت ِهلِإ مث مكيِيي مث مكتيِمي
َ ٰٓ َ َ ۡ َّ ُ ٗ َ َ ۡ َّ ُ َ َ َ َ َّ َ ُ
Itis He who created for you all that is in the earth, Žِإ ىوتسٱ مث اعيجِ ضِ ‡لٱ فِ ام مكل قلخ يِلٱ و ه
then He turned to the heaven and fashioned it into 29
seven heavens, andHehas knowledge of all things. ٞميِلعَ ءٍ شۡ َ لِّ كُ ِب و َ هُ وَ تٖۚ ٰوَ ٰمَ سَ عَ ۡبسَ نَّ هُ ٰÓوَّ سَ فَ ِءٓامَ سَّ لٱ

ٗ َ َ َ ۡ ٞ َ ّ َ َ َ ۡ َ ُّ َ َ َ ۡ
When your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed I am ۖ ةفيِلخ ضِ ‡لٱ فِ لعِ اج نِ ِإ ِةكِئلٰٓ ملِل كبر لاق ذ- 2:
gYooiungsettoisnetitasvoimceeroonyeownhthoeweialrltcha,’ustheecyosraruidp,ti‘oWn iilnl ُ ۡ َ َ َ ٓ َ ّ ُ ۡ َ َ َ ُ ۡ ُ َ َ ُ َ ۡ َ َ ْ ٓ ُ َ BAaql-ara
ننو ءامِلٱ كفِ سيو اهيفِ دسِ في نم اهيفِ لعتأ اولاق
it and shed blood, while we celebrate Your praise 30
aknndowprwohclaatimyouYdoounrostaknncotiwty.?’’ He said, ‘Indeed I نَ ومُ لَ عۡ تَ Aَ امَ مُ َلعۡ َأ نٓ ِّ ِإ لَ اَق ۖكَ َل سُ دِّ قَ نُ وَ كَ دِ مۡ بَ ِ حُ ِّبسَ ُن 2R856⁄
َ َ َ َ َ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ ُ َ َ َ َّ ُ َ َّ ُ َ ٓ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ َ َ َّ َ َ
And He taught Adam the Names, all of them; then لاقف ِةكِئلٰٓ ملٱ g مهضرع مث اهك ءامسلٱ مداء ملعو
pnraemseenstoedf tthheesme,tiofythoeuaanregetlrsutahnfudl.s’aid, ‘Tell me the َ ٰ َ ۡ ُ ُ ٓ َ ُ ٰٓ َ ٓ َ ۡ َ ُ َ 31
يقِ دِ ص متنك نِإ ِءAؤه ِءامسأِب نِ وبٔ ِ Ýأ
ُ َ ۡ َ َ َ َّ ٓ َ َ ۡ َّ َ َ َّ ٓ َ َ َ ۡ َ َ َ ٰ َ ۡ ُ ْ ُ َ
They said, ‘Immaculate are You! We have no ميِلعلٱ تنأ كنِإ ۖ انتملع ام Aِإ ال ملعِ A كنحبس اولاق
knowledge except whatYou havetaught us. Indeed ۡ 32
YouaretheAll-knowing, theAll-wise.’ ُ َ
ميكِ لٱ
َ َ َ َ َ
َ َ ۡ ٓ َ ۡ ُ َ ٓ َّ َ َ ۡ ٓ َ ۡ ُ ۡ ُ َ َ َ َ َ
لاق مِهِئامسأِب مهأبÝأ املف ۖمهِ ِئامسأِب مهئِبÝأ مدأـيٰٓ لاق
He said, ‘O Adam, inform them of their names,’
asanidd,w‘hDeindhIenhoatdteinllfoyromuetdhathteImknoofwthtehier nUanmseeesn, Hoef مُ لَ عۡ َأوَ ضِ ‡َلۡ ٱوَ تِ ٰوَ ٰمَ سَّ لٱ بَ يۡ غَ مُ َلعۡ َأ نٓ ِّ ِإ مۡ كُ َّل لُقَأ مۡ َلأَ 33
theheavensand the earth, and thatIknow whatever
youdiscloseandwhateveryouconceal?’ َ ُ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ ُ َ َ َ ُ ۡ ُ َ
نومتكت متنك امو نودبت ام
َ َ َ ۡ ٓ َّ ْ ٓ ُ َ َ َ َ َ ْ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ ۡ
And when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate before بٰ أ سيِلبِإ Aِإ اودجسف مدâ اودجسٱ ِةكِئلٰٓ ملِل انلق ذ-
Adam,’ they prostrated, but not Iblis: he refused

and acted arrogantly, and he was one of the َ ٰ َ ۡ َ َ َ َ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ
faithless. نيرِفكلٱ نمِ نكو ب كتسٱو
ِ
اهَ نۡ مِ èَ ُ وَ ةَ نَّ لَۡ ٱ كَ جُ وۡ زَ وَ تَ نَأ نۡ كُ سۡ ٱ مُ دَ أَـيٰٓ َ انَ ۡلُقوَ
We said, ‘O Adam, dwell with your mate in
paradise and eat thereof freely whencesoever you نَ مِ اَنوكُ َتفَ َةرَ جَ شَّ لٱ ِ هذِ هٰ َ ابَ رَ قۡ تَ Aَ وَ امَ تُ ئۡ شِ ثُ يۡ حَ ادً غَ رَ 35
wish, but do not approach this tree, lest you should
beamongthe wrongdoers.’
َ َّ
يمِ ِلظٰ لٱ
َ َ
َ ۡ ُ َ َ َ َّ َ ُ َ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ ُ ٰ َ ۡ َّ َ ُ َّ َ َ
انلقو ِۖهيفِ انك اممِ امهجرخأف اهنع نطيشلٱ امهلزأف
Then Satan caused them to stumble from it, and he
dislodged them from what [state] they were in; and ّٞ َ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ ۡ ُ َ َ ّٞ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ ُ ۡ َ ْ ُ ۡ
We said, ‘Getdown, beingenemies of one another! ر قتسم ضِ ‡لٱ فِ مكلوۖ ودع ضٍ علِ مكضعب اوطِبهٱ 36
Ontheearth shallbe yourabode andsustenance for
َ
atime.’ يٖ حِ Žٰ ِإ عٌ ٰتَ مَ وَ
Then Adam received certain words from his Lord, بُ اوَّ َّلٱ و َ هُ ۥهُ نَّ ِإ ِۚهيۡ لَ عَ بَ اَتفَ تٖ ٰمَ ِكَ ۦِهِبّ رَّ نمِ مُ دَ اءَ قٰٓ َّ لَ تَ فَ
and He turned to him clemently. Indeed He is the 37
All-clement, theAll-merciful. ُ َّ
ميحِ رلٱ
6
ۡ
َ َ ٗ ُ ّ ّ ُ َّ َ َ َّ َ ٗ َ َ ۡ ْ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ 2:
We said, ‘Get down from it, all together! Yet, نمف ىده نِ مِ مكنيِتأي امِإف ۖ اعيجِ اهنمِ اوطِبهٱ انلق Al-
should any guidance come to you from Me, those
who follow My guidance shall have no fear, nor َ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ َ ۡ ۡ َ َ ٌ ۡ َ َ َ َ َ ُ َ َ B3aq8ara
shalltheygrieve. نونزي مه Aو مِهيلع فوخ »ف ياده عِبت
286⁄
But those who are faithless and deny Our signs, مۡ هُ ۖرِ اَّلٱ بُ حٰ َ صۡ َأ كَ ِئلٰٓ َ وْ ُأ ٓ انَ ِتٰيَ ö ْ اوُبذَّ كَ وَ ْ اورُ فَ كَ نَ يِلَّ ٱوَ
they shall be the inmates of the Fire and they shall 39
remain in it [forever]. َ ُ ٰ َ َ
نولِ خ اهيفِ
َ
OChildrenof Israel, rememberMyblessing whichI مۡ كُ يۡ َلعَ تُ مۡ عَ نۡ أ تٓ ِ لَّ ٱ تَ ِ مَ عۡ ِن ْ اورُ كُ ۡذٱ لَ يِءٰٓرَ سۡ ِإ نٓ ِ بَ ٰيَ
bestowed upon you, and fulfill My covenant that I 40
may fulfill your covenant, and be in awe of Me ُ َ ۡ َ َّ ۡ ُ ۡ َ ُ ٓ ۡ َ ْ ُ ۡ َ َ R6
[alone]. نِ وبهرٱف يَ ٰي- مكدِ هعِب فِ وأ يدِ هعِب اوفوأو
َ َّ َ ْ ٓ ُ ُ َ َ َ ۡ ُ َ َ َ ّ ٗ ّ َ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ ٓ َ ْ ُ َ َ
And believe in that which I have sent down لوأ اونوكت Aو مكعم امِل اقدِ صم تلزنأ امِب اونمِ اءو
confirming that which is with you, and do not be

the first ones to deny it, and do not sell My signs ُ َّ َ َّ ٗ َ ٗ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ ۡ َ َ َ َ
forapaltrygain, andbewary of Me [alone]. نِ وقتٱف يَ ٰي- »يِلق انمث تِ ٰيö اوتشت Aو ۦِۖهِبِۢر ِفك
Dthoetnruotthmwihxilethyeoturuktnhowwi.th falsehood, nor conceal نَ ومُ لَ عۡ تَ مۡ تُ نَأوَ قَّ لَۡ ٱْ اومُ تُ كۡ َتوَ لِ طِ ٰبَ ۡلٱِب قَّ لَۡ ٱْ اوسُ ِبلۡ تَ Aَ وَ 42
َ
ْ َ َ ْ َ ْ
And maintain the prayer, and give the zakat, and َ َّ َ َ ُ ۡ َ َ ٰ َّ ُ َ َ َ ٰ َّ ُ َ
يعِ كِ ٰرلٱ عم اوعكرٱو ةوكزلٱ اوتاءو ةولصلٱ اوميقِ أو 43
bowalongwith those whobow[in prayer].
َ َ ۡ َ
َ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ ُ َ ُ َ ۡ َ َ َ ّ ۡ َ َّ َ ُ ُ َ
Will you bid others to piety and forget yourselves, نولتت متنأو مكسفنأ نوسنتو ب ِ ِ لٱِب سالٱ نورمأتأ 44
while you recite the Book? Do you not exercise َ ُ ۡ َ َ َ َ َ َ ۡ Hizb
yourreason? ٰ 3
نولِقعت »فأ ۚبتكِ لٱ
َ َ َّ ٌ َ َ َ َ َّ ٰ َ َّ َ ۡ َّ ْ ُ َ ۡ َ
g Aِإ ةيِبكل اهن- ِۚ ةولصلٱو ب ِ صلٱِب اونيِعتسٱو
And take recourse in patience and prayer, and it is
45
indeedhard except forthe humble َ َ ۡ
ٰ
يعِ شِ خلٱ
—thetihroLseordwahnodatrheatctehretayinwitlhlartetuthrenytowHililme.ncounter نَ وعُ جِ ٰرَ ِهلۡ َ ِإ مۡ هُ نَّ أَوَ مۡ ِهِبّ رَ ْ اوقُ ٰلَ مُّ مهُ نَّ أَ نَ وُّنظُ يَ نَ يِلَّ ٱ 46
َ َ
OChildrenof Israel, rememberMyblessing whichI نِّ أوَ مۡ كُ يۡ َلعَ تُ مۡ عَ نۡ أ تٓ ِ لَّ ٱ تَ ِ مَ عۡ ِن ْ اورُ كُ ۡذٱ لَ يِءٰٓرَ سۡ ِإ نٓ ِ بَ ٰيَ
47
bestowed upon you, and that I gave you an
advantage over all thenations. َ َ ٰ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ ُ ُ ۡ َّ َ R7
يمِ لعلٱ g مكتلضف
ُ َ ۡ ُ َ َ ٗ ۡ َ ۡ َّ َ ٌ ۡ َ ۡ َ َّ ٗ ۡ َ ْ ُ َّ َ
Beware of the day when no soul will compensate لبقي Aو ائ ش سٖ فن نع سفن يِزت A اموي اوقتٱو
for another, neither any intercession shall be

accepted from it, nor any ransom shall be received َ ُ َ ُ ۡ ُ َ َ ٞ ۡ َ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ ُ َ َ ٞ َ ٰ َ َ َ ۡ
fromit, nor will theybehelped. نوصني مه Aو لدع اهنمِ ذخؤي Aو ةعفش اهنمِ

َ َ ۡ َ ٓ ُ ۡ ُ َ ُ ُ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۡ ّ ُ َ ۡ َّ َ ۡ
ٰ
بِ اذعلٱ ءوس مكنوموسي نوعرِف لِ اء نمِ مكنين ذ-
[Remember] when We delivered you from 2:
َ
Pharaoh’s clan who inflicted a terrible torment on ُ َٰ َ ۡ ُ َ ٓ َ َ ُ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ ُ َ ٓ َ ۡ َ ُ ّ َ ُ Al-
you, and slaughtered your sons and spared your مكِلذ فِ و ۚمكءاسِن نويحتسيو مكءانبأ نوبِ ذي Baqara
women, and in that there was agreat testfrom your 49
ٓ َ
Lord. ٞ َ ۡ ُ ّ َّ ّ ٞ َ 286⁄
ميظِ ع مكبر نمِ ء»ب
ِ
َ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ ٓ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ َ َ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ ُ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ
And when We parted the sea with you, and We نوعرِف لاء انقرغأو مكٰنينأف ر حلٱ مكِب انقرف ذ-
delivered you and drowned Pharaoh’s clan as you َ 50
lookedon. َ ُ ُ َ ۡ ُ َ
نورظنت متنأو
AndwhenWe madeanappointmentwith Moses for نۢ مِ لَ جۡ عِ لۡ ٱ مُ تُ ذۡ تَ َّ ٱ مَّ ُث ةٗ َللۡ َ يَ عِ َبرۡ َأ سٰٓ َ ومُ انَ دۡ عَ ٰوَ ۡذ-
forty nights, you took up the Calf [for worship] in َ 51
hisabsence, andyouwerewrongdoers. َ ُ ٰ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ َ
نومِلظ متنأو ۦِهدِ عب
Then We excused you after that so that you might نَ ورُ كُ شۡ َت مۡ كُ َّلعَ َل كَ ِلٰذَ دِ عۡ بَ نۢ مِّ مكُ نعَ اَنوۡ فَ عَ مَّ ثُ 52
givethanks.
And when We gave Moses the Book and the َ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َّ َ َ َ َ ۡ ُ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ َ ُ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ
نودتهت مكلعل ناقرفلٱو بتٰ كِ لٱ سوم انيتاء ذ- 53
Criterion sothat youmightbeguided.
َ
مكُ سَ فُ نأ مۡ ُتمۡ لَ ظَ مۡ كُ َّنِإ مِ وۡ قَ ٰيَ ۦِهمِ وۡ قَ ِل سٰ َ ومُ لَ اَق ۡذ-
And[recall] when Moses said to hispeople, ‘O my
people! You have indeed wronged yourselves by ۡ ُ َ ُ َ ْ ٓ ُ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ َٰ ْ ٓ ُ ُ َ َ ۡ ۡ ُ ُ َ ّ
taking up the Calf [for worship]. Now turn مكسفنأ اولتقٱف مكِئرِ اب Žِإ اوبوتف لجعِ لٱ مكِذاتِ ٱِب
penitently to your Maker, and slay [the guilty 54
among] your folks. That will be better for you with ُ َّ ۡ ُ ۡ َ َ َ َ َ ۡ ُ َ َ ۡ ُ َّ ٞ ۡ َ ۡ ُ ٰ َ
your Maker.’ Then He turned to you clemently. ۥهنِإ ۚمكيلع باتف مكِئرِ اب دنعِ مكل ي خ مكِلذ
Indeed, Heisthe All-clement, theAll-merciful.
ُ َّ ُ َّ َّ َ ُ
ميحِ رلٱ باولٱ و ه
Andwhen you said, ‘OMoses, we will not believe ةٗ رَ هۡ جَ (cid:12)َ َّ ٱ ىرَ َن تٰ َّ حَ كَ َل نَ مِ ؤۡ نُّ نلَ سٰ َ ومُ ٰيَ مۡ ُتۡلُق ۡذ-
you until we see Allah visibly.’ Thereupon a َ َ 55
thunderbolt seized youas youlookedon. َ ُ ُ َ ۡ ُ َ ُ َ ٰ َّ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ َ
نورظنت متنأو ةقعِ صلٱ مكتذخأف
Then We raisedyou upafter yourdeath sothat you َ ُ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َّ َ َ ۡ ُ ۡ َ ۡ َ ّ ُ َ ۡ َ َ َّ ُ
نوركشت مكلعل مكِتوم دِ عب نۢ مِ مكٰنثعب مث 56
mightgivethanks.
ۡ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ۡ َّ
ٰ َ َّ َ َّ َ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ ُ ُ ۡ َ َ َ َ
ۖىولسلٱو نملٱ مكيلع الزنأو مامغلٱ مكيلع انللظو
We shaded you with clouds, and sent down to you
mWaennhaavanedpqruoaviildse[dsayfoinrg]y:ou‘E.’atAonfdthethgeoyoddidthinngost ْ اوٓ ُنكَ نكِ ٰلَ وَ اَنومُ لَ ظَ امَ وَ ۚمۡ كُ ٰنَ ۡقزَ رَ امَ تِ بٰ َ ِيّ طَ نمِ ْ اوُكُ 57
wrong Us, but they used to wrong [only]
َ
themselves. َ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ ُ
نومِلظي مهسفنأ
8
ۡ ُ ۡ ُ ۡ َ َ ۡ ْ ُ ُ َ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ْ ُ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ ۡ
ٰ
And when We said, ‘Enter this town, and eat متئشِ ثيح اهنمِ اوكف ةيرقلٱ ِ هذِ ه اولخدٱ انلق ذ-
2:
thereof freely whencesoever you wish, and enter
while prostrating at the gate, and say, ‘‘Relieve [us ۡ ُ َ ۡ ۡ َّ ٞ َّ ْ ُ ُ َ ٗ َّ ُ َ َ ۡ ْ ُ ُ ۡ َ ٗ َ َ Al-
مكل ر ِفغن ةطحِ اولوقو ادجس بالٱ اولخدٱو ادغر Baqara
of theburden of our sins],’’sothat We may forgive
58
your iniquities and We will soon enhance the ۡ
َ ۡ ُ ُ َ َ َ ۡ ُ َ َ َ 286⁄
virtuous.’ يِنسِ حملٱ دينِ سو ۚمكٰيٰطخ
َ َ َ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ ُ َ َ َّ َ ۡ َ ً ۡ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َّ َ َّ َ َ
But the wrongdoers changed the saying with other g الزنأف مهل ليقِ يِلٱ ي غ Aوق اوملظ نيِلٱ لدبف
than what they were told. So We sent down on

those who were wrongdoers a plague from the sky َ ُ ُ ۡ َ ْ ُ َ َ ٓ َ َّ َ ّ ٗ ۡ ْ ُ َ َ َ َّ
becauseof thetransgressionstheyused to commit. نوقسفي اونك امِب ِءامسلٱ نمِ ازجِر اوملظ نيِلٱ
َ َ َۡ َ َ َ ّ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ َ ٰ َ ُ ٰ َ ۡ َ ۡ
ۖ رجلٱ كاصعِب بضِ ٱ انلقف ۦِهمِ وقِل سوم قستسٱ ِذ-
And when Moses prayed for water for his people, َ ُ ُّ ُ َ َ ۡ َ ٗ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ ُ ۡ ۡ َ َ َ َ
We said, ‘Strike the rock with your staff.’ Thereat سٖ انأ ك مِلع دق ۖ انيع ةشع اتنثٱ هنمِ ترجفنٱف 60
twelve fountains gushed forth from it; every tribe Hizb
came to know its drinking-place. ‘Eat and drink of َ ۡ ْ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ َ َّ ۡ ّ ْ ُ َ ۡ َ ْ ُ ُ ۡ ُ َ َ ۡ َّ 4
Allah’s provision, and do not act wickedly on the ضِ ‡لٱ فِ اوثعت Aو ِ (cid:12)ٱ قِ زِر نمِ اوبشٱو اوك ۖمهبشم R8
earth, causing corruption.’
َ ۡ ُ
نيدِ سِ فم
الَ َ عُ دۡ ٱفَ دٖ حِ ٰوَ اٖ اعَ طَ gَٰ َ ب َ ِ صۡ نَّ نلَ سٰ َ ومُ ٰيَ مۡ ُتۡلُق ۡذ-
َ ٓ َّ َ َ ۡ َ ُ َ ۡ ُ ُ َّ َ َ ۡ ۡ ُ َ َّ َ
Andwhenyousaid, ‘O Moses, ‘We will not put up اهِئاثِقو اهِلقب نۢ مِ ض‡لٱ تِب(cid:14)ت اممِ ال جِري كبر
with one kind of food. So invoke your Lord for us,
so that He may bring forth for us of that which the ٰ َ ۡ َ َ ُ َّ َ ُ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ َ ُ َ
earth grows—its greens and cucumbers, its garlic, ندأ و ه يِلٱ نولدِ بتستأ لاق ۖ اهِلصبو اهسِ دعو اهمِ وفو
lreenptlialcs,ewanhdatoisnisounpse.r’ioHr weitshaitdh,at‘wDhoicyhoius insefeerkiorto? ۡ ُ ۡ َ َ َّ ُ َ َّ َ ٗ ۡ ْ ُ ۡ ٌ ۡ َ َ ُ َّ
Godown to any town andyou will indeed get what ۗملأس ام مكل نِإف اصمِ اوطِبهٱ ۚي خ و ه يِلٱِب 61
you ask for!’ So they were struck with abasement َّ َ ّ َ َ ُ ٓ َ َ ُ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ ُ َّ ّ ُ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ ُ َ
and poverty, and they earned Allah’s wrath. That,
ۗ ِ(cid:12)ٱ نمِ بٖ ضغِب و ءابو ةنكسملٱو ةلِلٱ مِهيلع تبضِ و
becausetheywould denythe signs of Allahand kill
َ
tdhiesobperyopahnedtscoumnjmusittltyra.nsTghraets,siobnecs.ause they would نَ يۧ ِّ ِبلَّ ٱ نَ وُلُتقۡ َيوَ ِ (cid:12)َّ ٱ تِ ٰيَ ö نَ ورُ فُ كۡ َي ْ اوُنكَ مۡ هُ نَّ أِب كَ ِلٰذَ
َ ُ َ ۡ َ ْ ُ َ َّ ْ َ َ َ َ َٰ ّ َۡ ۡ َ
نودتعي اونكو اوصع امِب كِلذ ۗقِ لٱ ي ِ غِب
9
ۡ َ َ ٰ َّ َ ٰ َ ٰ َ َّ َ ْ ُ َ َ َّ َ ْ ُ َ َ َ َّ َّ
نم يبِٔ ِ صلٱو ىرصلٱو اوداه نيِلٱو اونماء نيِلٱ نِإ 2:
Indeedthe faithful, the Jews, the Christians and the
Sabaeans—those of them who have faith in Allah َ ۡ ُ ُ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ َ ٗ ٰ َ َ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ َ َّ َ َ َ BAaql-ara
and the Last Day and act righteously—they shall دنعِ مهرجأ مهلف احِلص لِمعو ر ِ خِ bٱ مِ ولٱو ِ (cid:12)ٱِب نماء 62
have their reward from their Lord, and they will
haveno fear, nor will theygrieve. َ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ َ َ ۡ ۡ َ َ ٌ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ ّ َ 286⁄
نونزي مه Aو مِهيلع فوخ Aو مِهِبر R9
َ
ٓ َ ْ ُ ُ َ ُّ ُ ُ َ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ َ َ ۡ ُ َ َ َ ۡ َ ۡ
And when We took a pledge from you, and raised ام اوذخ ر وطلٱ مكقوف انعفرو مكقثٰ يمِ انذخأ ذ-
the Mount above you, [declaring], ‘Hold on with

power to what We have given you and remember َ ُ َّ َ ۡ ُ َّ َ َ َ ْ ُ ُ ۡ َ َّ ُ ُ َ ۡ َ َ
thatwhichisinit sothat youmaybeGodwary.’ نوقتت مكلعل ِهيفِ ام اوركذٱوٖ ةوقِب مكٰنيتاء
Again you turned away after that; and were it not مۡ كُ يۡ َلعَ ِ (cid:12)َّ ٱ لُ ضۡ َف Aَ وۡ َلَف ۖكَ ِلٰذَ دِ عۡ بَ نۢ مِّ مُتۡلَّ وَ َت مَّ ثُ
forAllah’sgrace onyou andHis mercy, you would 64
havesurelybeen amongthelosers. َ ٰ َ ۡ َ ّ ُ ُ َ ُ ُ َ ۡ َ َ
نيسِ ِ خلٱ نمِ متنكل ۥهتحرو
ۡ ُ َ َ ۡ ُ َ ۡ َّ ۡ ُ ْ ۡ َ َ ۡ َ َّ ُ ُ ۡ َ ۡ َ َ َ
And certainly you know those of you who violated مهل انلقف تِ بسلٱ فِ مكنمِ اودتعٱ نيِلٱ متمِلع دقلو
the Sabbath, whereupon We said to them, ‘Be you 65
spurnedapes.’ َ ٰ َ ً َ َ ْ ُ ُ
يسِٔ ِ خ ةدرِق اونوك
ةٗ ظَ عِ وۡ مَ وَ اهَ فَ لۡ خَ امَ وَ اهَ يۡ دَ َي يَ ۡ بَ امَ ِّل »ٗ ٰكَ نَ اهَ نٰ َ ۡلعَ جَ فَ
So We made it an exemplary punishment for the
present and the succeeding [generations], and an 66
ۡ ّ
advicetothe Godwary. َ َّ ُ
يقِ تملِل
َ ۡ
ٗ َ َ َ ْ ُ َ ۡ َ ۡ ُ ُ ُ َ َ َّ َّ ٓ ۡ َ ٰ َ ُ َ َ ۡ
ۖ ةرقب اوبذت نأ مكرمأي (cid:12)ٱ نِإ ۦِهمِ وقِل سوم لاق ذ-
And when Moses said to his people, ‘Allah َ َ َ َ
commandsyou to slaughter a cow,’ they said, ‘Are َ َ ُ ۡ َّ ُ ُ َ َ ٗ ُ ُ َ ُ َّ َ ْ ٓ ُ َ
you mocking us?’ He said, ‘I seek Allah’s نمِ نوكأ نأ ِ (cid:12)ٱِب ذوعأ لاق ۖاوزه انذخِ تتأ اولاق 67
protection lestIshouldbeoneof theignorant!’ ۡ
َ َ
ٰ
يِلهِ جلٱ
َ َّ ُ ُ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ َ َ َّ ّ َ ُ َ َّ َ َ َ ُ ۡ ْ ُ َ
اهنِإ لوقي ۥهنِإ لاق ۚ هِ ام ال يِ بي كبر ال عدٱ اولاق
They said, ‘Invoke your Lord for us that He may
cshlaerifisyaforcouws,wnheaitthsehreomldaynboer.’yoHuengs,aidof, ‘aHme isdadylse, امَ ْ اوُلعَ فۡ ٱَف ۖكَ ِلٰذَ يَ ۡ بَ ۢنُ اوَ عَ ر ٌ كۡ ِب Aَ وَ ضٞ رِ افَ Aَّ ٞ ةرَ قَ بَ 68
age. Nowdo whatyouarecommanded.’
َ ُ َ ۡ ُ
نورمؤت
َ َّ ُ ُ َ ُ َّ َ َ َ ُ ۡ َ َ َ َّ ّ َ ُ َ َّ َ َ َ ُ ۡ ْ ُ َ
They said, ‘Invoke your Lord for us that He may اهنِإ لوقي ۥهنِإ لاق ۚ اهنول ام ال يِ بي كبر ال عدٱ اولاق
clarifyforuswhather colour maybe.’ Hesaid, ‘He

says, she is a cow that is yellow, of a bright hue, َ َّ ُّ ُ َ َ ُ ۡ َّ ٞ َ ُ ٓ َ ۡ َ ٞ َ َ َ
