J. Vogel Well, it's another new year. Where did 2011 go? This issue of the Journal can help you find a few memories from those fleeting events that happened in the past year as many reports on club events, shows and other activities can be found on the pages that follow. Before 1 report on the events of 2011, I must inform you of the big event of 2012. The NNA Show is rapidly approaching and will be in Lincoln this year. Not only is it in Lincoln, it's all about Lincoln as well. Dates and information are on the previous page and page five. You won't want to miss it. Information on the NNA Dinner that is traditionally held in conjunction with this event hasn’t yet been final¬ ized but as with any show information, see the contact persons listed on the show flyer. Now for the recap of 2011. From a show report about the Wyo- braska show in Gering to one about the NNA Show/Convention and dinner you can find all the exciting details in the pages six & seven. On pages eleven through fourteen, Nebraska native, Jeff Burke, shares his experience of Navigating the ANA School of Numismatics Diploma Program which he successfully accomplished in 2009. NNA 1st VP Patrick Milliken gives us a look at Medieval coins of Eng¬ land in his latest edition of the YN Corner on pages sixteen and eight¬ een. Pages twenty-one thru twenty-four gives us glimpse into all of the fun and festivities the various clubs in the state held during their year-end activities. If you aren’t a member of a local club, you're missing out on a lot of fun and the opportunity to get to know many interesting people. The state club directory on page thirty-six can help you find a 3 Nebraska Numismatic Association Journal Jan / Feb / March 2012 club near you. For example, do you live near North Platte and have been desirous of meeting and gathering with other collectors? Well you’re in luck because North Platte has a new coin club. For details check out page thirty-six. Lincoln Numismatic Society Secretary / Treasurer, Jim Bulmer, shares his "latest adventure in his lifelong saga of coin collecting" in an article entitled, Casual Dealing which can be found on pages twenty-five and twenty-seven. Don’t forget to check out the Coin Club Show calendar on pages thirty-three and thirty-four. Many show dates have been set so make your plans now to attend these fun events. Also, on a personal note, 1 was surprised and honored to find myself nominated for a governorship in the Central States Numismatic Soci¬ ety last fall. 1 gave the nomination much thought and consideration before I accepted because with my many other commitments to the hobby state-wide and locally, 1 didn’t want another commitment to take away from the commitments I have already made. After weighing the pros and cons, I accepted the nomination and now find myself in the running to be a governor of Central States. One of the primary reasons 1 decided to run has been the absence of a repre¬ sentative from our fine state on the Central States Board for a number of years. Other Nebraskans, like Leonard Owen, Bob Kutcher and Roger Winkelhake have both served Central States and represented our fine state and if elected 1 hope to do the same. With that in mind, if you are a member of Central States, I would appreciate your consid¬ eration and hopefully your support and vote. Ballots will be mailed out to Central States members in February. If you are not a Central States member, check out their ad on page thirty-four for information. I hope to get the opportunity meet you at any of the many upcoming shows as I hope to be able to attend and set up a NNA table in order to share what this organization has to offer with collectors around the state. Dealers were present from Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and Illinois. Attendance was good, but down slightly from last year due to the close proximity of the Nebraska-Wyoming football game late that afternoon. Many people from the Panhandle traveled to the game and left early in the day for the two hundred mile trip. Those that attended were enthusiastic and bourse activity was brisk. All of the dealers expressed satisfaction with the show and stated they're interest in next year’s show. The show was well publicized with ads in the trade press, three local newspapers, a ten min¬ ute radio interview, regional press releases and a mailing of abnost three hundred post cards to prior attendees. The date for next year's show is undetermined at this time. Show organizer Larry Gibbs of Gibbs Enterprises, the show sponsor, expressed hope in getting more dealer interest from Nebraska and South Dakota dealers for next year's show.
