Jay is dedicated to assisting students in achieving their goals, both in the classroom and on the playing field. As a coach he understands that a team is just that, a sport in which everyone has an opportunity to participate and contribute. In this day and age, this wonderful personal characteristic is an anomaly rather than the norm. Jay is a winner and he values winning, but he does not prioritize winning over the personal development of his players. Jay Bach is a fine man who has made and continues to make a positive difference in the life of every child he spends time with and works with, from Jr. Kindergarten to Seniors. Over the many years (38) of his dedicated service to North Shore, Jay's contributions to the School and to its students are too many to count. Jay is a difference-maker who makes the places and people he touches better. Chris Avery Class of'87 (Jay Bach is) "a steadfast and calming influence in a sea of high energy youth." Nancy Green Whiteman Class of'71 "Even when he was well into middle age, he was the best athlete in school. He played against us in practice a lot and after going against him, games were easy...Everybody used to call him 'Easy'. I'm not sure how that started; probably because he made things look so easy... In the best North Shore tradition, he cared a lot about each student individually..." A more comforting question may be why did they live. There are so many answers to this question when we think of Louis Conant's life and the gifts he gave to all of us. Louis loved every aspect of life at North Shore, from daily classroom experiences to After-school Homework Club to Summer Camp. He loved to learn and participate in so many activities and did so with joy and enthusiasm. Louis's curiosity was apparent in every classroom from Junior Kindergarten on. His travel experiences around the world with his family enriched his knowledge base and he was so thrilled to get to share his experiences with his classmates. One of his favorite destinations was Italy where he became enthralled by the country and its culture. Louis loved the music program and participated in it as much as possible. He was an integral member of Recorder Club, chorus, and band. A favorite experience of his was composing and recording "There is Peace" with composer in Residence Jim Papoulis and his fellow chorus members. We hope you can find comfort in the chorus of this song whose lyrics Louis helped to write: Louis had so many talents in swimming, soccer, and "There is peace in my heart gymnastics. On the sports field, Louis was much more And I know concerned about enjoying the game with his friends than he It will always be there was about winning. One of Louis's most amazing qualities In my mind and in my soul was his ability to befriend everyone he came in contact with. Now I see it comes from me" He was the consummate "people person." He loved both working and playing with all of his classmates. His friendship will forever be in the hearts of everyone whose life he touched. Louis had such a strong sense of self and followed his own interests and passions. He was one of the happiest people we have known and we have much to learn from the joyrull way he experienced life to the fullest. Louis, we love you and will always have you in our hearts.
