PREFACE THE first issue of The Methodist Who s Who was surrounded by special difficulties but the sale of the book showed how much it was appre ciated in a;ll parts of the country. The Second Edition was much enlarged, and had even greater success. To the present issue large additions have been made which bring the Methodism of our Colonies and the United States into intimate touch with the Methodism of our own country and the Mission field. Warm congratulations and expressions of interest have been received from all parts of the globe. The English lists of ministers and laymen have also been much extended. The brief biographies contain details as to each man s personal history, his public work, his church life, his writings, studies, recrea tions, and other points of interest. Such pages will make ministers and people better known to each other, and will bind together the various branches of the Methodist family. The book makes a wider appeal to members of other Churches and to all who wish to know something about Methodist men of the time. They will find here much information which can be gained nowhere else. One American reviewer carefully examined 1,600 entries and found that the most popular recreations were : Cycling, 253 ; golf, 192 ; walking, 175 ; gardening, 98 ; cricket, 80 ; photography, 75 ; fishing, 68 ; music, 66 ; tennis, 66 ; reading, 65 ; travel, 50 ; motor ing, 37 ; chess, 34 ; hunting, 29 ; swimming, 21 ; horseback-riding, s9po;rdtr,ibviyntg,he9.wayI,twsheiecmhsisthlaitttltehfeolclroowwendiinngAfmoenrdinceas.s isWfeorbeclyicelviengthata in America the favourite recreations are hunting, fishing, and garden ing.
