I hope this edition will emphasise the degree to which TheMerryWivesofWindsorisaliveinstageterms,butthatitwillalsobringtothe reader’sattentionhowgreatalinguistictriumphtheplayisandhowprofoundan understandingitconveysofwhatitmeanstobealiveandnotdead.
