Post Office Box 6533, Sparrows Point, Md. 21219 2dedicated to attaining UnoUedgz and fuifitlmmt in JVumilmatici The MSNA Board met on Thursday, September 2, 1993, at 6:30 pm at the Grace United Methodist Church in Baltimore. In attendance were: Bill Ayres - President Pete Burris - Past President Ernie Turnes - Vice President Bill Lenz - Harford Coin Huskers Bill Sacks - Treasurer Greg Ruby - Catonsville Coin Cl. Bryce Doxzon - Secretary Bill Stratemeyer - Baltimore CC Jack Pryor - Past President Don Curtis - Belmar Coin Club Bill Sacks reported a $11,500 profit on one of the most successful MSNA conventions in years. The Board voted to donate to the Children's Hospital the $400 raised from vest pocket dealer admissions early Satur¬ day morning, July 24. The Baltimore Association for Retarded Citizens and the Children's Cancer Fund were each voted $50 donations. After some discussion the MSNA Board approved donations to member clubs for the work of their members at the convention. The clubs were: Baltimore Coin Club, Maryland TAMS, Catonsville Coin Club, Harford Coin Huskers, Belmar Coin Club, Colonial Coin Club and the Perry Hall Coin Club. The wording and design of a certificate to be awarded to individual convention workers was discussed. A list of convention workers names was circulated to Board members for review and editing. In discussions about the 1994 ANA sanctioned MSNA convention it was noted that Hall E of the Baltimore Convention Center was available for meeting rooms, a security room and an exhibit room. Halls C and D were to be sought for the bourse area. For this convention it seems very likely that an auction could be held. Bill Lenz read a basic plan of ANA and MSNA responsibilities as others in attendance reviewed it. After brief discussion the plan was approved. The board approved life membership in MSNA to Lester White. Respectfully submitted Bryce F. Doxzon Secretary 4 MARYLAND STATE NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION, INC. Bill Sacks read his financial report on the MSNA accounts. He will set up a separate account for finances pertaining to the Atlantic Rarities Expo. (the name selected for the 1994 MSNA Convention) Pete Burris read the names of the MSNA convention workers still to be awarded certificates and silver eagles and requested assistance with the distribution to those persons. Greg Ruby proposed a motion for a $500 loan to the Baltimore Area Numismatic Coalition (BANC), to be repaid within 12 months. The motion was made and approved. The Board approved a $250 donation to the Maryland Industry Council for Tangible Assets. A proposal that MSNA buy copies of "Maryland Merchant Tokens" to donate to member clubs was rejected. Jim Boswell voiced a complaint from the Eastern Shore member clubs that those clubs never see any visits from MSNA officers. Ernie Turnes and Millard Hajek volunteered to staff a committee to contact all member clubs about their officers, meeting times and places in order to facilitate visitations. Ed Craig suggested the Talbot County Association Building as a site for a possible MSNA sponsored event to draw in Eastern Shore members and clubs. The Atlantic Rarities Expo meeting began following completion of discussion of regular MSNA business. Committee designations among those in attendance are as follows: Bill Lenz - General Chairman Jim Boswell - Registration Enie Turnes - Correspondence Jack Pryor - Breakfast Bill Sacks - Finance Pete Burris - Property Bryce Doxzon - Publicity Ed Craig - Raffle Bill Stratemeyer - Education A committee directory was distributed to everyone in attendance. 5 MSNA; 4 Dec 93 Page 2 In discussing space availability for the Expo it was noted that halls A and B of the Baltimore Convention Center are available for the show dates on June 24-26, 1994. Show setup can be done in Hall A on Thursday night, June 23, and in Hall B on Friday morning, June 24. The bourse area will include several tables for exonumia deal¬ ers but will not have them congregated as a seperate blurse area, e.g. Paul Cunningham's New Jersey Token & Medal Show. A projected total of 188 bourse tables will be offered to dealers. Convention hotels are the Sheraton Inner Harbor and the Days Inn. Bill Lenz reported a large demand for A.R.E. bourse applications at the recent Crabstate show in New Carrollton. He also reported that some auctioneers are interested in holding an auction in conjunc¬ tion with the Expo, but that none have been selected yet. In addition he mentioned that he has edited a news release by ANA Public Relations Manager, Stephen Bobbitt, explaining the background of the A.R.E. for the Heads & Tails feature of The Numismatist. For the educational forum, Numismatic News correspondent Burnett Anderson, has volunteered to try to get Representative Joseph Kennedy of the House Banking Committee to come and speak. An advertisement for the A.R.E. with copy developed by MSNA and edited and cleared by the ANA will be placed in the Westex show cal¬ endar as has been done for MSNA convention advertising in previous years. Tidewater was approved as the supply dealer for the A.R.E. Millard Hajek displayed two designs for the elongated, one with horizontal; the other with vertical, orientation. He recommended one design and the committee agreed. The approved design will be faxed to the ANA for their approval; once that is received Pete Burris will order 1000 cents and 50 multi-denomination sets. Denwood Kelly is working up the souvenir card design. Raffle prizes will be the same as at previous shows - $50 and $5 gold eagles and proof and uncirculated silver eagles. Bill Sacks will procure the Baltimore City raffle permit. The tickets will bear the MSNA convention designation, not that of the A.R.E. Bonuses for raffle tickt sellers will be left to the raffle chairman's discretion. ANA personnel attending the A.R.E. will be Ruthann Brettell, Merrill Davis and Stephen Bobbitt. Committee members will get photo ID's, but not ribbons. People will need to be recruited for the registration desk, show setup and for staffing the MSNA sales table. 6 NSBA: 4 Dec 93 page 3 Bill Lenz read out the ANA budget for the A.R.E. An at-length discussion of various parts of the budget followed before adjournment,. The next MSNA Board meeting was set for January 16, 1994. Respectfully Submitted Jy. // CX''Y*K~ Bryce F.
