Once again, we are working our way toward our annual convention on June 20-23, 1991 at Festival Hall. Jack Pryor is General Chairman and can use all the help and support you can give him. There are many different committees where help is needed and the best way to enjoy our organization is to be involved. It is a lot of fun and very rewarding in many ways. With the change to my work schedule, for the better, I plan on making visitations to the various member clubs soon. We must keep our clubs active in order to keep our hobby alive and well, especially in these troubled times. Please show your support for your individual clubs by keeping up attendance and participating in the various activitie These are very precarious times we are living in. Our hearts go out to those of you with loved ones in the Gulf war and I hope everyone, despite how you may feel about war, will support our men and women who are serving their country. 19th Annual CONVENTION and COIN SHOW of the Maryland State Numismatic Association, Inc. In attendance were: Bobbie Vaughan - President Bill Lenz -Baltimore Coin Club Jack Pryor - Vice President Jim Boswell-Colonial Coin Club Bill Ayres - Secretary Jim Besley - Prince George's Bill Sacks - Treasurer Dora Besley /County Coin Club Pete Burris - Past President The proof sets (left over door prizes) from our show have been sold. Our June dates for 1991 have been confirmed, in writing, from the Festival Hall. Convention Center later asked if we would consider re¬ leasing them; naturally the reply was no. Krause Publications still has us listed for both dates. They will be contacted and advised to drop the May dates. Pete will check to see what options are available at the Festival Hall and the Convention Center; everyone else will keep on the alert for other locations we might consider for 1992. An award for the members who worked is still pending. There was considerable discussion of the form it might take. The matter of the checks for the clubs was resolved today; they have been made out and Bill Ayres will see that they are delivered to the clubs. Checks have been sent to BARC. The one for the Children's Cancer Fund has not yet been delivered. FALL SEMINAR: Glenn McConnell, from the Naval Academy Museum, will speak on the medals in the museum and their display. Sylvan is getting out of being second speaker by furnishing someone to take his place. We have to procure our presentation items for our speakers. We voted to pay the church $15 for the use of their space today. Our printer, ZAP, has moved from Magnolia to Middle River. OUR 1991 SHOW: We will order one additional roll of yellow plastic for the table covers. We need to get with Paul and determine table rates for next year. Expenses are up in several areas and may go up in others and, on the other hand, the market is bad. Security is an area that needs a hard look. Jack is to contact Mike and get an estimate of exactly what is programmed. We may have to cut some areas back in order to be able to afford it. We know that the city police, which we are required to have in order to rent the hall, is going up. - - 4 BOARD MEETING - 7 Oct 90 - Continued Denwood Kelly is looking for a bill to use for our souvenir card. Walt Kitner will be asked to be exhibits chairman. An invitaiton will be made to Ken Hallenback. He has been in¬ vited in the past but always found other committements. The list of taxi numbers, events, diners, etc. for attendees will have to be made up. Bryce Doxzon has been asked to chair publicity. Bobbie will get the police permit for the raffle so we can order the tickets. Prizes will be a $50. gold; $5. gold; a proof silver eagle and an uncirculated silver eagle. (note the value and not the weight on the gold). Bill Ayres to order 2000 tickets. Bill to order 3000 wooden nickels and order them early. Millard Hajek will be approached to see if he can prepare our elongated for us. We will order the same set up for elongated's as last year. We will let Ray roll clad quarters (but no silver). We will have silver ones made for our educational forum only. There is a local potential auctioneer by the name of Irving Sass. We will consider having flyers made up and posted in stores, etc, as we have done in previous years. Jack needs a copy of the 1990 flyer so he can see what can be done. Our next meeting will be held on 2 December. Secretaru - 5 - MARYLAND STATE NUMISMATIC ASSOCIATION, INC. Post Office Box 6533, Sparrows Point, Md. 21219 5dedicated to attaining knowledge and fulfillment in JVumiematice The meeting of the Board of Directors of the MSNA convened at 2:15 p.m., Sunday, 2 December 1990, at the Grace United Methodist Church, North Charles St, Baltimore, Maryland. In attendance were: Bobbie Vaughan - President Pete Burris - Past President Jack Pryor - Vice President Bryce Doxzon - Catonsville Coin Club Bill Ayres - Secretary Jim Boswell - Colonial Coin Club Bill Sacks - Treasurer Our seminar was poorly attended: thirteen participants. Maryland TAMS took the award for having the most members in attendance. The matter of recognition to those who worked on our show was resolved. We will present each with a personalized mug. Bobbie will make the arrangements. APL's check for their participation has as yet not been delivered. Jim reported that the Colonial Coin Club's meeting dates will be changed effective 1 January 1991. They will then begin meeting on the 2d and 4th Mondays of each month at the library. There has been some problem contacting Shirley Howard with regard to the delivery of our check to the Children's Cancer Fund. An effort will be made to contact the group directly and see if she is still with them. Table fees for our 1991 show have not been locked in - no special problem, we just haven't had the time to sit down and look at the overall picture. We will make contact with Paul and make that decision shortly. Bill Lenz has agreed to chair the educational program for the convention. Wooden nickels are on order. As a matter of record: Paul Finck's friend, Tom Pautonovich died on Wednesday 28 November. Again, for 1991, there will be no meeting rooms available to us in the Convention Center and we will have to arrange with the Holiday for meeting space. Bill Lenhart is the current manager of the Holiday and we have booked 75 rooms for the show. Our 1992 dates are more or less locked in for 19-21 June. Mid Atlantic will again be our decorators. We have ordered one more room of t yellow plastic for the table covers. - 6 - MSNA - Directors meeting of 2 December 1990. We were advised that Bob Ruby has the ribbons on order for the show. Bill Ayres will serve as chairman of the set-up committee. Bill Ayres will contact Larry Gentile to ask him to serve as YN Chairman, Will Mumford will serve as Breakfast Chairman. Millard Hajek is to be contacted to be sure everything is in step for our elongateds. Auction: nonthing done in this area. Pete will arrange for the hook up of telephones. The Festival Hall contract is not yet in our hands although we have their verbal agreement. A Registration Chairman is needed. Jack raised the question as to whether a fax machine would be a practical idea. No action taken. The matter of vertical signs and banners - outside the hall - was raised and discussed; also no further action at this time. Carol Pryor is looking into the possibility of a Friday night boat trip. Jack also raised the matter of the anniversary of the Bill of Rights which occurs on 15 September. He asked for support so he could write in an effort to have a cornmemerative coin struck to celebrate the 200th anniversary. Consent given to state that MSNA supports this effort. Jim Boswell questioned as to whether or not anything has been done toward the 1993 ANA in Baltimore. The answer is negative. Apparently the ANA is proceeding more slowly with future dates then they did a f ew years ago. Jim also questioned asto whether or not we are going to do anything with the silver medals we still have. At this time - continue holding them was the decision. The next meeting of the Board will be held on Sunday, 10 February 1991. 7 CALEMD. AR.
