Send to: Editor, The Iowa Collector 7079 189lh Street Albia, IA 52531-8771 Winter & Spring 2018 3 Presidents Message Fellow numismatists: The fall, the 1NA Convention in the Quad Cities has come and gone. I would like to thank Chris Seuntjens for taking on the bourse chair task He did a great job. I also want to thank the Quad Cities Coin Club for their help with set up, tear down, and running the front table. They were a big help. 1 saw several of you there and had a chance to visit with some of you. Congratulations to Rusty Crawford on receiving the Scott Nichols Outstanding Numismatist Award at the general meeting. There were some very interesting well done exhibits which were well received. We would like to continue that at future conventions so please be thinking about making a display for some time in the future. Numismatics is all about learning and the INA wants to put more emphasis on that. You should make a point of learning something at every show you attend. There is a lot of knowledge in the room take advantage of it and ask some questions. Participate in your local coin club. Step up and give a presentation on your favorite area of Numismatics. If you want to learn something about a specific area just lead a discussion about it. If you spend some time to explore you will learn something new and maybe even find something new to collect. Next fall elections will be held for INA offices. Please consider serving as an officer or encourage someone you think could help the INA to grow and serve Iowa in the coming years to run. Dean Parr President, Iona Numismatic Association 4 Winter & Spring 2018 Hello from Fort Dodge. As I am writing this we are winding down our fall, winter will soon be upon us. I guess we’re about as ready as we’re ever going to get. Thank you to everyone that voted for the Scott Nichols Outstanding Numismatist. Rusty Crawford was the winner! Congratulations Rusty, you deserve the award! What are the markets doing right now? Right now gold is around $1,260, with silver about $16.00. See you at the shows. Beverly Ashton IN A Secretary/Treasurer INA Board and Membership Meeting Dates The fNA officers hold three board meetings each year and one open membership meeting. These meetings are held in conjunction with a coin show. The annual board meeting is held during the INA’s Annual Coin Show & Convention which is hosted by a different Coin Club each year. The rNA’s officers board meeting is held the evening of the first day of the INA coin show and the open membership meeting is conducted on the morning of the second day of the INA coin show. Regular INA Board meetings: February 24, 25, 2018 at Coin-a-Rama, Nevada, Iowa May TBD, 2018 at Central Iowa Coin & Stamp Expo, Altoona, Iowa October TBD, 2018 at Annual INA Show, Bettendorf, Iowa October TBD, 2018 Open membership meeting, Bettendorf, Iowa Winter & Spring 2018 5 October 21, 2017 INA Board Meeting Bettendorf. Iowa President Dean Parr called the meeting to order. The minutes were read, Denny Ross motioned they be accepted, Ron Lashmit seconded and they were approved. The treasures report w as given w ith a balance of $5,055.40 in the general fund. Don McCulloch motioned they be accepted, Denny seconded and they were approved. The Scott Nichols Outstanding Numismatist Award was shown. It was admired by all. Chris told us that the Ames Coin Club donated 10 of the Scott Nichols silver rounds for this and upcoming awards. Thank you Ames Coin Club. Chris Seuntjens discussed some of the aspects of the 2017 show . He assured us that he had sent out 2 or 3 mailings of around 700 each. The Quad city Coin Company placed several newspaper ads at no cost to the INA. They looked very good. As for the exhibits, what was displayed here worked really great. Bev filed the 1023EX to apply for the 501(c)(3) designation. That was rejected because we had attempted to get this designation in the past, which meant instead of a couple of short page forms we now need to be brought up to date before we tackle the job of filing the 1023. The committee to look at the by-laws consists of Dean Parr, Brian Sparks & Beverly Ashton. The 2018 INA show is up in the air. Chris is going to talk to the Des Moines club and to the Quad city club and then put together a consensus for an email vote. Denny mentioned an inquiry he had received regarding an ad, it sounded like a good idea. We all need to be sure to get items to Denny by the deadline, this is usually one month before publication. John Jackson called for thanks to Chris for all his hard work on the show. Don motioned wc adjourn, John seconded and we adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Beverly Ashton Secretary T rcasurer Members present: John Jackson, Clarence, Ron Lashmit, Denny Ross. Sam Ashton. C hris Seuntjens, Bev Ashton, Dean Parr. Dale Winter, Dave Stark Brian Sparks & Gary' Stasko. f> W inter & Spring 2018 From The Editors Desk Denny Ross Well.here we are, another year gone by and a new one to look forward to. Can't complain to much about the winter so far, but with a couple of months left until spring any thing can happen in the weather department. I trust that the weather in January and February and even March remain good for the upcoming shows in those months. The rare coin market still remains fairly soft with the prices on key dates in all series remaining at very reasonable prices. In fact the prices on key dates are at their lowest they have been in the last several years. So if you still have those key date holes to fill in your albums this looks like a good time to try and purchase some of them. The bullion market remains fairly stable at this time and I think as long as the stock market remains strong we won’t be seeing any dramatic changes in bullion prices. Be sure and check out the picture on page 26 in this issue of The Collector it is of the newly redesigned “Outstanding Numismatist Award.” It is awesome! A quick reminder, that if you have any new changes in club meeting dates or locations be sure and get those to me as soon as possible. Also any other articles or information that needs to be passed on to INA members has to be in my hands at least one month before the release date of The Iowa Collector. If you have any questions relating to Collector deadlines please contact me with them. I look forward to seeing many of the INA members at the upcoming coin shows.
