There’s too much rain out our way, too! Say, wasn’t the last issue of the Collector good looking? (Our thanks to the Keokuk Coin Club and Tom Gardner for writing most of it and putting it together.) I understand Tom is going to try to get out two or three issues this year, all looking as good as Vol. 28, No. 1. To do this, we’re going to need some help from our members and clubs. Right now Tom needs articles and input from your club and you. Let him know what’s going on at your club’s meeting-and tell him all about the shows you’re putting on. (Be sure Roger Wolver knows about them, too!) Also, consider writing an article or two about your collection-or what you collect and why. You might get some else interested in your area of collecting. We all have a story to tell! You don’t need to provide a polished, finished piece of writing, either. Tom will help you with editing, so that you’ll end up saying what you want to say in the way you want to say it. Just put your ideas down on paper and send them along to him. And thanks! Even as I write this (in June), we have started to work on a state show for sometime this fall. We are having some difficulties in arranging for a place and date. Most places are already booked up; however, we hope to have this problem resolved by the time you’re reading this. If we do, there will be a show announcement in another part of the bulletin. We also need to arrange for state shows for the next two years. If your club would like to put on a state show in 1994 or 1995, please get in touch with JoAnn Peters or me. We would love to have a state show in your area. Hope to see you all at this fall’s l.N.A. Convention & Show! Dean Peterson President The Iowa Numismatic Association June, 1993 *** * * * * * « * * * * * * 4 FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK: We welcome several new members to the I.N.A. this quarter, hope they find many years of making new friends through our organization and become more informed about their collecting interests. One of our members didn’t know where to send his $5.00 in annual dues. Dues are to be sent to me at Route 1, Box 16, Kanawha, IA 50447. The first issue of our beautiful new Collector is now out. 1 hope you are all reading it "cover to cover." We want to encourage those readers who are also dealers to place their ads in this attractive, interesting publication. And, of course, all of you should consider sending along a letter or article for publication, too. Collecting is slow in the summertime, but with gold and silver prices on the increase, we will most likely see some higher prices at 1993 and 1994 shows. Have you been having trouble getting order blanks from the mint? I have spoken with several collectors who have not been receiving their forms, even though they have ordered for years. Apparently this problem is most likely to occur with the order forms for the silver proof and prestige sets. Hope you are receiving yours! Have a great summer! Best known are the Brunswick tokens, which include those tokens produced by or for any of firms that trace their origin to John M. Brunswick and his brothers, Joseph and Emanuel. Julius Balke in 1874 and H.W. Collender in 1884 added their names to Brunswick’s in successive corporate restructurings. Thus, Brunswick tokens from Iowa have been found with the following names: Brunswick & Co., J.M. Brunswick & Balke Co. and Brunswick Balke Collender Co. Each name has been used in several stock dies, all of which are described and illustrated in The Brunswick Token Story, a booklet written by William E. Fowler, Richard G. Magnuson and Paul F. White. This booklet was published by the Token and Medal Society in 1977 and is indispensable for anyone who wishes to study this token series. 8
