Dedication
I dedicate my work to my loving parents, Basith Hasan Jaffer Khan and Rahima
Jaffer Khan, and my brother, Dr Jaffer Akbar Khan, who nurtured and guided
me through this architectural journey. Without them, I would not have achieved
the level of success I have encountered in my professional practice.

Acknowledgment
I would like to thank many people who have been responsible for encouraging
me in completing this research. First of all, I thank Professor Leon van Schaik,
AO, for supporting me as a research candidate and having faith in the quality of
work submitted for this practice-based research. I thank my senior supervisor,
Professor Martyn Hook, for his understanding and for continuously supporting
me through difficult times by offering extraordinary advice and direction and
helping me understand the research process. I was equally encouraged by Dr
Mauro Baracco during Practice Research Symposiums (PRS) in Europe and
