Introduction

Shivaji holds a paramount position as a fore-tunner of
national movement in India. Late Sh. Jagjiwan Ram, President
of the Ch. Shivaji C.T.C, Committee righty remarked thet the
heroic career of Shivaji is an inspiring tegend in the history of
our Freedom Movement. Even after a lapse of centuries
Shivaji’e life and ideals enconrago us to face boldly alll the odds
and obstacles that stand in the way of our political emancipa-
tion. The Crowning event of his life, three centuries ago, stands
asa beacon of light for all those who aspire for their social,
euttural and political liberty. In the wosds of Pt. Jawahar Lal
Nebru Shivaji was the symbol of a resurgent Hindv nationalism
drawing inspiration from the old classics, courageous, aad
possesting high qualities of leadership. Shivaji undoubtedly
