The royal family of Scotland has always been struggling to find a place in the medieval world. With England causing legitimacy issues with Scotland’s crown, and enemies at seemingly every turn, the throne of Scotland is in jeopardy. The only way that the king believes Scotland can have more power is by marrying off his beautiful daughter, Rowan, to an English prince. Problem is, Rowan has no intention of marrying anyone that she doesn’t want, and she’s had her eye on a childhood best friend of hers for years. Calum, the son of the blacksmith, would do anything for Rowan. Growing up as best friends, their relationship began to turn more intimate as they aged. Now, as Rowan is said to be married, Calum knows he must do something, anything, to fix this. Rowan schemes up a plan, and Calum must play into her hands in order to convince the kingdom of their plans. What Rowan didn’t count on, however, was the jealous prince breathing down her neck. With the prince ready to take Rowan’s hand, willing or not, and Calum forced to hide, Rowan finds herself in a state of panic. Can she and Calum keep up appearances and please the king? Can they shake the angry prince from their trail? Or will they succumb to the pressure of the throne?
