The Ilex (holly) is added for a festive feel and the cinnamon will give a pleasant fragrance to the room. SKILL LEVEL HH ENTHUSIAST METHOD 1 4 Place the soaked foam on the dish. Wire the cones and place in the Flowers and foliage 2 design, or alternatively simply place on l 15 red roses Position as many cinnamon sticks the foam. l 1 stem Ilex(holly) berries as you can hold around the foam, then l 8–10 fir cones take a length of wire over these and 5 Insert the twigs between the rose l 2 bunches of long twigs around the foam to secure. LEFT A narrow oblong glass container was filled with ‘water pearls’. The pearls expand when soaked for a few hours in water to form a structure which holds stems in position. A layer of Gypsophila‘Million Stars’ was topped by a layer of white Rosa ‘Avalanche’, three Ornithogalum saundersiaeand stems of Miscanthus sinensis. Some visitors assumed this was the ‘loo’ brush! TOP RIGHT Two complementary opalescent containers were filled with Gypsophila‘Million Stars’ and arching stems of Phalaenopsis N orchids. Stems of Miscanthus sinensisreflected TO H some dark wooden touches in the room. G O H E D RIGHT A long low glass container was filled with S A ‘water pearls’. Some cuttings from a succulent M O plant were positioned in the midst of the ‘pearls’. H T A group of frosted and glittered twigs covered S H the top of the container. Stems of Miscanthus AP R sinensisreflected the colour of the rustic beam G O Designer Jean Mangnall above the shelf and mirror. A stem of OT Phalaenopsisorchid arched over the design. Stems of TO H trailing Amaranthus were sprayed G O white and dangled at the back to E H D suggest icicles. To the front, S A preserved Stachys lanataand M O opalescent pearls were threaded H T on to wool and trails from the S H silver-leaved plant Ceropegia AP R woodiiwere added. Heads of G O Phalaenopsisorchids were T O Designer Jean Mangnall attached to the wire. PH
