What a delight it was. The detailed screen shots_and pointers were very welcome and easy to use. Even though I'm a computer veteran (since 1984), I appreciated clear way you distinguished the sites' free features from the "pay" ones and explained ali the available options. It was a pleasure to explore these Websites with your book in hand. Not only that, but I found ancestors who'd eluded me for years. The most satisfying find was a genealogy that linked my paternal grandfather with his ancestors for several generations. There were several more such finds, all in a couple of hours. Your "Best FREE Internet Genealogy Databases..." has reawakened my enthusiasfmo r genealogy! Thanks so much." (Patricia McGowan) Have you noticed that every time you start looking around at genealogy information on the Internet that some genealogy company wants you to sign up with their service on a monthly contract so that you can access their data and databases? There is nothing wrong with this, it is business. You can certainly find good information this way. But are you aware of all of the FREE data and databases that you are missing out on? Robert Ragan here... Publisher of TREASURE MAPS Genealogy E-mail Newsletter (see http://amberskyline.com/treasuremaps/) and developer of the PAJAMA GENEALOGY RESEARCH System and the “SEARCH ENGINE SECRETS Made Easy for Genealogy Researchers” guide (see http://amberskyline.com/gentools4results/) and others. I am a writer, teacher and advocate for the on-line genealogy researcher. Over the years I've been asked this question hundreds of times, "Robert - Should I sign up for (fill in the blank with one of the bi g name genealogy services) service?" I always answer, "It has to be YOUR decision." You see, I'm not going to take the risk for that person. I've heard both success stories from people who were delighted and horror stories from people who were dissatisfied with their experiences with these services. It goes both ways. __ For many people this poses a problem. My new guide offers an affordable solution: Go for the "free stuff" first. You really should know about the best of __ the free Internet databases and what they can offer you. Note I said "best" because some of them are not worth your time. Let Me Ask YOU These Two Important Questions: 1. Do you know where the best FREE genealogy databases are? You may be surprised where some of the best ones are. 2. Do you know hew to USE them? I've learned first-hand from my students and in seminars that most on-line genealogy researchers do not. Here's an even MORE IMPORTANT question: Can you find the little-known surname databases that other genealogy researchers put on the Internet that the big genealogy directories and databases may not even list? I ask this because what is most important to you is finding information on the surnames that you are researching, right? There are multitudes of these smaller surnames databases on-line right now. Many of them have their surname databases set up in a format that you can download to your computer. I have an incredible example of this in the guide. That's why I've included a SPECIAL BONUS SECTION in the back of the guide: "How to Find the Smaller, Personal, On-line Surname Databases." You will discover how to do this with ease. I believe that this bonus section alone is worth more than the price you will pay for the guide. More of What Others Are Saying: *"I received your book on The Best FREE Internet Genealogy Databases and How to Use Them Step by Step. The very day that I got it I started to read and do as you instructed and WOW LI started to pull names that I have never seen before. I had something like 4800 names in my database and since I have had the book I have added more than 2500 names and am still finding them. This is on both sides of the family, my wife and mine. We are finding names that we never thought ever existed. Robert we want to thank you for being such a great Professor of Genealogy." (Carl Moury) Note from Robert: "Thanks Carl. I'm not a professor; I am self-taught with a lot of help along the way. But it thrills me when I hear stories like this. Like you, I have found many names for my database as well. Now comes the task of double-checking and verifying the information--starting with the ancestors that are the most important to us. There are bound to be mistakes in the data, but there is also tons of valuable information that we would spend a lifetime trying to gather in the "old days" before we had the Internet. *"And........[ have already found "gobs"!!!! I found about 33 generations on one side of my family!!a!y Yeah! . Thanks! : I stayed up late last nigh t and got ii t all entered into my Family 4%T ree Maker!!"
