(Skeletal summary: I was scattered in pieces;n ow I a,n rebuilt from all the fragments of my disgrace. .. ) -Excerpted from Rainer Maria Rilke's The Book of Hours -7 - -8 - Foreword We are emerging, gratefully, from a strange time, where it has been the custom to separate science from spirituality, art from health, play from learning, and the inner life from the outer. These divisions, studiously cultivated over the centuries, have left us with a fragmented view of reality, not to mention a broken world. If The Ezekiel Code walks simultaneously in several realms, blissfully ignoring the boundaries of academic disciplines and professional territories, no offence is meant. Rather, my intention, in unpacking an ancient vision of reintegration, is to make a contribution to the reintegration of vision. In particular, for many years I have been looking for a bridge between Jung's work on the inner life and Feldenkrais's work on the organization of movement. This bridge has gradually come into view through the study of images and motifs which express themselves in both psyche and soma.* If my previous book, Making Connectionsw, hich was addressed to my colleaguesi n the Feldenkraisp rofession, was a solarb ook, this one gives the moon her due. On the moon's team: creative imagina tion, synchronicity, ancient murals, and good clean Biblicalf un. Caveatl ector I: I am a practitioner of the Feldenkrais®M ethod of somatic education,** with a degree in Religious Studies and Near Eastern Languages. The dance of these elements is in the writing. The exegesis which follows is far from orthodox; you will not find a kinaesthetic reading of Ezekiel among the traditional commentators, Jewish or Christian.*** -9 -
