Description:The Duke, Lord Edward Barrington, and his guests are deep in the midst of their Christmas celebrations when the butler interrupts the proceedings in a very distressed state. A baby had been left on the front steps of Merryweather Hall but with a blizzard in full force there is no way of finding the unfortunate soul who has left the infant with them.
Upon first sight, the Duke is completely smitten with the little infant and vows to take her in and become her guardian. As time goes by the Duke’s mother and the comely Lady Amelia, who is busily scheming to become Duchess, become increasingly frustrated by the Duke’s refusal to leave the infants care in the hands of his staff.
The Duke employs a nurse maid, Eliza, to care solely for baby Charity. Eliza forms an immediate bond with Charity and the Duke that causes Lady Amelia to begin to suspect there is more to Eliza than first meets the eye.
The following Christmas, the Duke experiences a little of the level of desperation the man or woman who had left the infant with them must have felt when battling through a snowstorm himself to try and find the only person he feels can save him from his loneliness and despair…
