The Gouldsmiths are a unique bunch. Sophia, the oldest, is a spinster who struggles to keep her family afloat. Her sister, Selina, is a beauty with a swath of notable suitors. Samuel, the eldest brother, keeps to his room, working on inventions that he will share with no one. Finally, there’s Silas, the youngest brother. He is a kind and warm sibling with a bright intellect. Unfortunately, due to the untimely deaths of their parents, the Gouldsmith children are in financial ruin. The Duke is rumored to be a cold and unfeeling bachelor, so Sophia expects the worst. However, Ewan shocks her by agreeing to sponsor Selina’s debut trip to London. Sophia is overwhelmed by his generosity but promises to pay him back every penny.
However, Selina’s debut does not bring the prosperity for which the family hoped. A conman infiltrates her heart, and she disappears suddenly one night.
