He is a researcher at the GREThA, CNRS Research Unit in Bordeaux. He has published various papers, chapters and a book (in French) dealing with institutions, economic growth and distributional issues in middle-income emerging countries in general, and in Middle East and North African economies in particular. François Combarnous is a university lecturer in economics at the University of Bordeaux, France, and a researcher at the GREThA CNRS Research Unit, Bordeaux. His research focuses on the labour market, entrepreneurship and social networks issues. He has published several papers and book chapters deal- ing with these issues in African economies and Brazil. About the Authors Céline Bonnefond is a university lecturer is economics at the University of Grenoble, and a researcher at the CREG research centre. Her research fields include development economics, socioeconomics, and income and spatial inequality. She is a specialist in the Chinese economy and has published various papers on the structure and nutrition of middle classes. xi xii Notes on the Contributors Matthieu Clément is a university lecturer in Economics at the University of Bordeaux, France, and a researcher at the GREThA CNRS Research Unit. He is a specialist in comparative economics and has published various papers on pov- erty, inequality and social protection in Russia and China. Ela Callorda Fossati holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Bordeaux and currently holds a post-doctorate position at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium, where she participates to a collective research program on social protection schemes in Europe. Her research focus is on labour market institutions and gender inequalities. Claire Gondard-Delcroix is a university lecturer in development economics at the University of Bordeaux, France. She is a researcher at the GREThA CNRS Research Unit. Her research focuses on poverty dynamics, risk and vulnerability in African rural areas and has been published in several journals. André Meunié is a university lecturer in economics at the University of Bordeaux, France and is a researcher at the GREThA CNRS Research unit. His work combines environmental studies and developing economics and addresses such issues as pollution and urbanization in emerging economies in general, and China in particular. Dalila Nicet-Chenaf is a university lecturer in development economics at the University of Bordeaux, France, and a researcher at the Larefi Research Unit. Her research focuses on the geography of finance, FDI, and macroeconomic issues in emerging economies. She is also a specialist in the Middle East and North African economies. Coralie Reslinger holds a PhD in Economics of the University of Bordeaux and is currently a junior researcher at the KEDGE Business School in Bordeaux, France. Her research is focused on the diversity of capitalisms and proposes a comprehensive approach to technological emergence and institutional compara- tive advantage of Asian emerging capitalist economies.
