Adoption ofConstitution . 26 . : Constitution of UNIP 1 UNITED NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE PARTY CONSTITUTION PREAMBLE WHEREAS Zambia is now and forever a free, unitod, in divisible and independent sovereign State due to the historio fact that the people of Zambiaspearheaded by the Party launched and won a just and relentless struggle for national independence and liberation of the motherland under the banner of our motto of “ One Zambia, One Nation ”; RECOGNISING that the Party is the leading political force and shall continue to be a revolutionary organisation in which participatory democracy shall be rigidly and strictly main tained, welded together by patriotism and the voluntary acceptance ofbelonging to it; DETERMINED to mould a new Zambia guided by the Philosophy of Humanism , determined furtherto remain the militant vanguard of revolutionary peasants, workers and intellectuals; DETERMINED to pursue a policy ofequality, justice, liberty, solidarity, peace, political, economic and social progress and prosperity for all; REALISING that the main task ofthe Party is to accomplish a victorious transitionfrom Capitalism to Humanism through Socialismasameansoftheeradicationofimperialism , colonial ism , neo-colonialism , fascism and racism on one hand and poverty, hunger, ignorance, disease, crime and exploitation ofman by man, on theother; ACCEPTING that the communal way of life is traditionally the way of life of the Zambian people as expressed in the Philosophy of Humanism and that the Party shall bolster up and maintain this noble and worthy way oflife; DECLARING that the Party.recognises the inalienable right of allpeople to self-determinationand national independence and that anypeople have a right to wage liberation struggle; and furtherthat the Party pledges its support for all poople waging just struggle for national liberation from imperialism , colonialism , neo-colonialism , fascism and racism ; and further that the Party shall work to enhance the development of Pan Africanism , African Unity and Non-alignment; Now therefore: WE ACCORDINGLY PROCLAIM AND GIVE TO OURSELVES THIS CONSTITUTION, 2 Constitution ofUNIP CHAPTER I FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES ARTICLE 1 Nameof (1) The name of the Party shall be the United National theParty Independence Party (hereinafter referred to as “ the Party " ). Philosophy (2) The Party guided by the Philosophy of Humanism is oftheParty the militant organisation of revolutionary peasants, workers and intellectuals and shall exercise supreme authority over all Statoorgans. ARTICLE 2 Themain (1) The main task of the Party, and the working people of task the Republic ofZambia isto accomplish a victorious transition from Capitalism to Humanism through Socialism. (2) The Party shall demand hard work, honesty, sacrifice andself-relianceinallactivitiestoimprovethelivingconditions and ensure greater benefits to the people of Zambia. ARTICLE 3 The Party shall ensure that all public institutions, State owned enterprises and popular mass and similar organisations are led by persons who are members ofthe Party and who are uncompromisinglycommittedtothe achievementofHumanism . ARTICLE 4 ThePartyshallwagearelentlessstruggleagainstalldomestic and international forces of reaction. It shall fight for the eradication of capitalism , imperialism, colonialism , neo colonialism , fascism , racismononehand; and, poverty, hunger, ignorance, disease, crime and the exploitationof one manby another onthe other. ARTICLE 5 The Party is the supreme organisation and the guiding politicalforceinthe land. Its aimsandobjectivesas expressed in this Constitution shall provide guidelines for all persons and institutions inthe Republic,
