This was probably the hardest decision we have ever had to make, but now that
dispersal time is drawing near, we know we have made the right decision. We are getting
older and can't seem to keep up with all of the demands. At this point, we are glad we can
pass our small part of the Angus legacy on to others who love the Angus breed as much
as we do. We have seen many "so called" dispersals over the years, but rest assured this is a
complete dispersal. Nothing has been held back.
Many of you are aware that we have been traveling extensively for several years now
trying to locate the old feed-efficient, easy-fleshing cattle we remember as children. And, we
do believe we have made progress.
And, with the drought this year, this significant change is very noticeable. Feed
efficiency with a moderate frame is here without sacrificing weaning weights. Hay and corn
are priceless this year and we have reaped a significant reward with easy-fleshing cattle. The
job has only just begun. But, the beginning is here for others.
We need to also thank everyone for their support over the years. Our involvement
in the Angus breed began in 1980 and the addiction grew from there. But, we are not alone.
We have made many good friends over the years who love Angus cattle as much as we do.
Our Web site, petteraangus.com, still contains the newsletters we have mailed over
the years and helps explain our breeding philosophy. We stopped chasing numbers years
ago, but we now know what $EN is. Kind of hilarious how our herd has become a top $EN
herd and we didn't even know about the number at that time.
In closing, I hope all our cattle receive good homes. Selling a herd is like losing a
part of your family, but we know it is best. And, we wish all those who purchase our cattle
the very best.
P.S. - Some of our cattle will request a good scratch and brushing while out grazing. Two of
them will come for a hug!
As we get older time seems to fly. This quote I stumbled upon seemed very appropriate.

moderate easy-fleshing traits of the Scottish cattle to form an individual that can
grade, perform and flourish in real world conditions of southwestern Nebraska.
