In terms of GRAP 103 paragraph 4 heritage assets are defined as assets that have a cultural, environmental, historical, natural, scientific, technological or artistic significance and are held indefinitely for the benefit of present and future generations. In terms of GRAP 103 paragraph 13 heritage assets will be recognized if, and only if: (a) It is probable that future economic benefits or service potential associated with the asset will flow to the entity, and (b) The cost or fair value of the asset can be measured reliably. In terms of Directive 3 paragraph 123; if the initial accounting for heritage assets is incomplete by the end of a reporting period in which the Standard becomes effective or the transfer occurs, whichever is later, the entity shall report in its financial statements provisional amounts for those heritage assets for which the accounting is incomplete. During the measurement period, the entity shall retrospectively adjust the provisional amounts recognised to reflect information obtained about facts and circumstances that existed on the effective date of the Standard in accordance with paragraph .121 or the transfer date in accordance with paragraph .122, and, if known, would have affected the measurement of the amounts recognised as of that date. During the measurement period, the entity shall also recognise additional heritage assets if information is obtained about the existence of those heritage assets at the effective date of the Standard or the transfer date, whichever is applicable, and, if it had been known, would have resulted in the recognition of those heritage assets at that date. The measurement period ends as soon as the entity receives the information it was seeking about facts and circumstances that existed at the effective date of the Standard or the transfer date, whichever is applicable, or learns that no more information is obtainable. However, the measurement period shall not exceed the later of three years from the effective date of the Standard or the transfer date. According to the acquisition card the work was valuated in 1992. However, during the 1999 valuation it was not valuated; thus it could not be found for the valuation of 1999. On the acquisition card a question mark has been entered where the location should have been entered. It has thus been missing since before 1999. We will work through the entire collection to establish if the work has been misplaced or wrongly numbered. g h h i j g h h i j n i h o p qr j qs t g h h i j u s o m j qs t h h k lm 31 MAYORAL CHAIN Pretoria Art Museum Asset Text: Mayoral Chain: Mayor of Nokeng Tsa Taemane Local Municipality (Bronkhorstspruit) (cid:138) Asset Description: MAYORAL CHAIN Single gold chain with medallion Inventory Number: 064523 Housed at the Pretoria Art Museum for the purpose of safekeeping until the completion of Tshwane House.
