With our sincerest appreciation for his outstanding efforts on behalf of the students, faculty, and staff at Delta State University, the 1997 BROOM edition ofthe is proudly dedicated to Coach Bill Marchant for his excellence as Head Baseball Coach of the DSU Diamond Statesmen. Marchant spent eight seasons as DSU Head Coach, having compiled a 283-127-1 record with the Statesmen from 1989 to 1996. His teams won Gulf South Conference championships in 1991, 1994, NCAA and 1996 and made five playoff appearances in eight seasons, including World Series appearances in 1994 and 1996. Coach Marchant, a 1968 Delta State graduate, was a freshman starter in 1965 and has been an essential part of DSU baseball since. Coach Marchant will continue on as an athletic administrative assistant at Delta State and will also continue his teaching duties as an instructor in the health, physical education and recreation department at the university.
