The Calhoun Count>' native has taught continuously at Delta State since 1968, and priorto cominghere, shetaught in the public
schoolsinGulfportandJackson.SheearnedherbachelorsciencedegreeinmathematicsfromMississippiCollegeandamastersdegree
from the University ofMississippi. Dr. Strahan's doctorate degree is in Curriculum and Instruction from Subject Specialization in
MathematicsEducationfromtheUniversityofFlorida.
Sheisactive in national, stateand local professionalorganizationsand holdsmemberships in Phi Kappa Phi. Kappa Delta Pi, Phi
DeltaKappa.DeltaKappaGammaandOmicronDeltaKappanationalhonorsocieties.Dr.Strahanhasservedonmanycommitteesand
held many offices in her favorite professional organizations. She has presented more than 30 papers and workshops at professional
meetingsandgiven85inservicepresentationson65differenttopicssince 1980.SheservedasprojectdirectorfortheDeltaMathematics
Projectfrom 1991-95,andparticipatedina"familymath"workshopsponsoredbvSoutheasternEducationalImprovementLaboratory
inAtlantain 1987.
SinceshecametoDeltaState,Dr.Stahanhasalwaysexhibitedaninterestintheextra-curricularactivitiesofstudents.Insupportofher
interest forathletics, she shows aconstant encouragement forthe student athlete. Dr. Strahan isalsoanactive memberofthe DSU
.AthleticCommittee.

THE DLAMOND ANNIVERSERY
^TN elta State was established by the government of Mississippi on April 9,
JL/ 1924, as Delta State Teachers College. The school, which was only author-
ized to offer the Bachelor ofScience Degree in Education, opened its doors
to students on September 15, 1925. That fall, there were 97 students and 11
members of staff and faculty. The first diploma was presented in 1928, at the
first graduation. The school's name was changed in 1955 to Deha State College,
DSU
and on March 15, 1974, the name became Delta State University. Today,
offers 15 baccalareate degrees in 45 majors, nine masters degrees, the Education-
al Specialist Degree and the Doctor of Education Degree. From 1928-1999,
Delta State has granted 27,815 degrees.
