John Allpress 4 i John Allpress Rogers Assistant House Master Math Teacher, Rugby & Rowing Coach, Rogers House Master, Mathematics Head, Director of Residence, Director of Admissions, Deputy Head of School, Director of Advancement John Allpress arrived at Brentwood in March, 1980. A globe-trotting Kiwi who originally came to Canada to ski, John began his Brentwood career as a Rogers Assistant House Master, math teacher, and coach of rowing and rugby. He also led ski tours to New Zealand, rowing and rugby tours to Great Britain, France, Spain and Australia and began the school's annual Winter midterm ski trip to Silver Star Mountain in Vernon, BC.John went on to serve as Rogers House Master, Head of Mathematics, Director of Residence, Director of Admissions, and most recently Deputy Head of School and Director of Advancement. During his tenure in Advancement, the school has enjoyed unprecedented growth. John constantly reminds us it is our donors who have transformed the Brentwood campus: the Maeda Health Centre, the Bunch Centre, Crooks Hall, the Centre for Art and Humanities & the Foote Athletic Centre, as well as Allard and Hope Houses. Of equal importance are those who have contributed to realizing the goal of a $20M endowment by 2020. While the vast bulk of funds are directed to keeping Brentwood accessible to worthy students, Boat Funds for rowers, a Technical Theatre Endowment for our performing artists, a Learning Centre Endowment to offset staffing costs and, most recently, a Faculty Professional Development Fund have all materialized under John's leadership. In whatever role he found himself, John has been an unfailingly committed, energetic, positive, selfless and principled servant of our school community. John is a true Brentonian.
