Imagine you are working in your garden, or yard, and you hear an unusual whirring sound. As you turn to see what it is, the 'thing' shoots at you. The sound of the shot is loud and startling. You run for cover as fast as you can. A drone just tried to murder you. You don't know who sent it or why. That is what happens to John in the opening chapter.
Now imagine that you managed to smash the drone with something. All is quiet once more and you are shaking from the adrenaline rush and fear. Then you notice that sound again. At first it is just a quiet noise in the background. Then it grows louder and louder. And then you see them, more drones, They are coming at you in a swarm. Someone or some thing is determined to kill you, and you don't have a clue why. Imagine what you would do if this happened to you.
Imagine how you would feel if the drones murdered your spouse or your children as well as trying to murder you. If you escaped, wouldn't you want to know who or what tried to kill you? Would you want revenge?
John escapes and sets out to find out who did this. In the process he hooks up with an interesting cast of characters, some who have been through similar experiences.
Some of the characters include:
Peggy, who escapes a drone attack and learns she is much more competent than she ever believed possible.
Jonas, an incredible genius who fights back even though he is afraid to fire a gun.
Toni, whose husband and family were murdered, and who is fighting back.
The girl in the hoodie, a 16-year-old hacker putting her skills to use against the drones at the risk of her own life.
Lorne, whose Walter Mittyish appearance conceals a determined and capable adversary.
Gwen, a fragile old lady, but an expert shooter.
Myrtle, a six-foot-six behemoth who is an excellent cook.
Lowboy, a grizzled Southerner who gets the ball rolling.
Doc, just out of medical school and a fearless and capable driver.
Tom, an ex-military sniper who targets drones.
Merle, a sheriff who stands off a drone invasion in his county.
Review"This is a great read, Once I started I found that you could not put this book down.

"The book started out so real and the characters so believable that I was crying before the end of the first chapter. I can picture something like this happening right here in the United States. I couldn't put the book down."--Goodreads, 5 Stars
From the AuthorDrone Wars: The beginning is the first book of a series. It took me almost a year, among my other responsibilities, to write. The more I immersed myself in the world of the book as I wrote, the more the characters seemed to tell me how the book should be written. In a sense, this story just told itself to me. Most of the characters seem like old friends to me now. I hope they will also become your friends when you read the book.
