BASTERIA, 55: 89, 1991 The authorship of the species groupname Galeomma turtoni (Bivalvia: Galeommatacea) E. Gittenberger Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum, P.O. Box 9517, NL 2300 RA Leiden Accordingtothe ICZN,Art. 50, the authorof Galeommaturtoni is Turton (1825). Key words: Bivalvia, Galcommatidae, Galeomma, nomenclature. There has been some dispute about the authorship of Galeommaturtoni(Bivalvia: Galeommatacea, Galeommatidae), initiated by Mienis (1991). In a publication by Turton(1825), the editors ofthe Zoological Journal added theepithet turtoniafter the generic nameGaleommaintheheading ofaspecies description. According tothe ICZN (ed. 3, 1985), Art. 50, the author ofa publication is the author of the names intro- ducedin that publication, unless "it is clear" that another person "isalone responsi- ble both [!] for the nameand for satisfying the criteriaofavailability". Because only theepithet turtoniwasaddedby theeditors, whereasthe description isclearlyTurton's, the authorship ofGaleomma turtonishouldbe attributed to Turton(1825). REFERENCES MIENIS, H.K., 1991.
