A college course in world geography led him to the conclusion that a plant- based diet would become a global necessity in the years to come. Although he has yet to become a full-fledged vegetarian, Jim’s love of innovative, organic cooking led him to hit the road in search of quality meatless cuisine. These discoveries are out- lined in the book you now hold in your hands. Today, Jim resides in San Francisco, where he lives, works and eats. Acknowledgments The author would like to thank the following people for their help with this project. Gold stars go to: T.J. Firpo for patience, midnight editing and laughing out loud at my sentence structures; Dan Frost for reading through bare-bones chapters such as South Dakota and Montana; Simon Dang for adding a couple of reviews to a thin New York section; Joe Frost for three well-researched Austin write-ups; Susie Park for her review of Timothy’s in Hartford, Connecticut; Chris Ross-Davis for advice on vegetarian survivalism in the Deep South; Tom Frost for a day of slumming around Albuquerque and excellent artwork; Curtis Nishijima and the Contents Introduction What Does It Mean To Be A Vegetarian? 1 How To Use This Book 2 Before You Go 3 Helpful Web Sites 3 The Northeast Connecticut 5 Hartford 5 Greenwich 6 Middletown 7 Mystic Seaport 7 New Haven 7 New London & Groton 8 Norwalk & Westport 8 Delaware 8 Delaware Beaches 8 Dover 9 Wilmington & Newark 9 Maine 10 Portland 10 Lewiston 10 Bangor 11 Maine’s Coastline 11 Maryland 13 Annapolis 13 Baltimore 13 Frederick 17 Massachusetts 18 Amherst 18 Boston 19 Brookline 22 Cambridge 22 Cape Ann 23 Cape Cod 24 Concord 26 Northampton 26 Salem 27 Worcester 27 New Hampshire 27 Concord 28 vi The Artichoke Trail The Hamptons 28 Manchester 28 Nashua 29 New London 29 Portsmouth 29 New Jersey 30 Atlantic City Area 30 Cherry Hill & Environs 30 Trenton & Environs 30 Long Branch Area 31 New Brunswick & Environs 31 Parsippany & Environs 32 Hoboken 32 Teaneck & Environs 32 Paramus Area 33 New York 33 Albany & The Hudson River Valley 33 Binghamton 34 Buffalo 34 The Catskill Mountains 35 Cooperstown & Oneonta 36 Corning 36 Ithaca 36 Long Island 38 New York City 40 Brooklyn 49 Queens 51 Yonkers 52 Northern Suburbs 52 Rochester 53 Saratoga Springs 54 Syracuse 54 Pennsylvania 55 Allentown 55 Harrisburg 55 Pennsylvania Dutch Country 55 Philadelphia 56 Pittsburgh 58 The Poconos 59 Scranton 59 Valley Forge & Gettysburg 59 Rhode Island 60 East Greenwich 60 Narragansett 60 Newport 60 Pawtucket 60 Contents vii Providence 61 Vermont 61 Bennington 61 Brattleboro 62 Burlington 62 Killington 62 Manchester 63 Middlebury 63 Montpelier 63 Rutland 63 Stowe 64 Sugarbush 64 Washington DC 65 DC Suburbs 70 The Southeast Florida 73 Florida Keys 73 Miami 73 Ft.
