21 One day when the crowds were being baptized, Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened, 22 and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.” Luke 3: 21-22 Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region. 15 He taught regularly in their synagogues and was praised by everyone Luke 4:14-15 The Spirit of the Sovereign L is on me, ORD because the L has anointed me ORD to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,[a] 2 to proclaim the year of the L ’s favor ORD and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the L ORD for the display of his splendour. What is the anointing all about? The Old Testament contains a clear pattern of the anointing of priests, prophets and kings, such anointing being with oil made according to the recipe which God gave to Moses. It was to signify a setting apart, being chosen by God. How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe. Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the L has pronounced his blessing, even life ORD everlasting. Psalm 133 What is the anointing all about? It is knowing the supernatural presence of God upon us, being aware of His presence with us. A physical experience where we feel the warm presence and glow of God upon our body. • Like the oil running down Aaron’s beard, we need the anointing of the Holy Spirit; • We need the anointing – the Holy Spirit! He is the one who breaks the heavy yoke, brings freedom to the captives, sets free the oppressed and releases healing and miracles. “The flow of the anointing oil provokes intense worship” ― Thea Harris, Pour the Oil The anointing is God's ability in you to enable you to do something with ease, without it being a struggle. Jesus is the ANOINTED ONE, but we share in His anointing. ’But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.’ 1 John 2:20 ‘But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie—just as it has taught you, abide in him.’ 1 John 2:27 ‘It is God who enables us, along with you, to stand firm for Christ. He has commissioned us, 22 and he has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.’ 2 Corinthians 1:21 How do we know God’s anointing? ‘As a result of the apostles’ work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter’s shadow might fall across some of them as he went by.’ Acts 5:15 How do we know God’s anointing? ‘When handkerchiefs or aprons that had merely touched his skin were placed on sick people, they were healed of their diseases, and evil spirits were expelled.’ Acts 19:12
