A - Campbell's b/w About the design: Warhol’s first exhibition came in 1962 at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles. He displayed his canvases of Cambpell’s Soup, one canvas for each of the 32 types of Campbell’s soup. Warhol said “I used to have the same lunch every day for twenty years, I guess, the same thing over and over again”. With these groundbreaking works, Warhol challenged our way of thinking about art. Through images of consumer products such as Campbell’s soup and movie stars like Marilyn Monroe, Warhol addressed the changes brought about in our society through mass communication and production. B - Campbell's red About the design: Throughout his life and professional career, Andy Warhol had an uncanny ability to see the familiar in an unexpected way. At the time in the early 1960s until his death in 1987, Warhol’s subject matter was the American experience, especially the Pop culture, in which the American consumer became Warhol’s muse in choosing everything from soup cans, Brillo boxes, commercial shipping labels, and of course, the rich and famous as the subject matter of his artwork. Of his trademark method of de- personalized artistic production, Warhol declared, “I think everybody should be a machine.” Available in all sizes. He often directed assistants who actually executed the silkscreens, and the assembly-line nature of this process when it involved multiple screens was the inspiration for naming his studio The Factory. Of his trademark method of depersonalized artistic production, Warhol declared, “I think everybody should be a machine.” Available in all sizes. These all over colorful compositions were exhibited in various orientations and the silkscreen process flattened the subjects to create a beautiful painting that is integrally abstract. Warhol thought it would be a good idea for the Factory to have an in house rock band. Later, Warhol’s films were projected on a wall behind the band for some early Velvet Underground performances, which then later became a full show with Warhol’s avant-garde films showing simultane- ous with a light show, dancers, and the Velvet Underground and Nico providing the music. This became know as the “the Exploding Plas- tic Inevitable”, and the Velvets were soon doing performances across the country. In 1966, Warhol produced and designed the first album of The Velvet Underground and Nico. The famous Banana image with Warhol’s stamped signature on The Velvet’s debut album cover is one of the most recognized and revered albums in rock and roll history. Available in all sizes.
