THE ANATOLIA SUN ANATOLIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEWSPAPER VOLUME 1 ISSUE 1 EDITOR’S PAGE Dear Readers, I would like to welcome all of you to the first is- sue of ‘The Anatolia Sun’. It has been a pleasure working with the students and staff of Anatolia Elementary School to produce this pioneering endeavor. It is hoped that all of you will continue to make valuable contributions to ensure that all future issues maintain the same high level of interest and inspire even more students to partici- pate and keep “The Anatolia Sun” shining! Special thanks are due to Ms. Camilla Ralls, Mr. Manos Agrodimos and Mr. Thodoros Papanestoros for their support, guidance and encouragement. Georgia E. Coules Editor AES English Program Teacher Dear AES Students, I would like to congratulate each and every one of you on your contribution to this superb publication. Sometimes we become so con- cerned about tests and spelling and grammar, we forget that language is a means of ex- pressing our ideas and creativity but in ‘The Anatolia Sun’ all of you have shown us how creative you can be. A university professor of mine said, ‘Writing is an act of faith not a trick of grammar.’ You have made it clear that your understanding of language goes beyond your knowledge of grammatical rules. I think your writing has been helped by the amount of reading that you do in your English program because read- ing opens the world to every child and will help you succeed in all types of learning – so keep reading (and writing) as much as you can but make sure that you read something that you enjoy. ‘The Anatolia Sun’ is something else that you can enjoy reading (I certainly enjoyed read- ing it) and you and your teachers should be very proud of what you have achieved. It took us about 50 minutes to get there by bus. We sang songs and we talked on the bus. When we got there we saw the 560 hectare vine- yard with yellow, red, purple, and green grapes. On November 15, 2011 our class visited There were beautiful flowers all around. There the church of St. Dimitrios and the Roman was also a museum with old things that people Market. The way the theatre was built was really complex because the gates were at the side. In the theatre, they watched different plays and they also had fights. On the theatre ground we saw different items that they found from past years through a window. The theatre is used now in the summer months for dif- ferent festivals. In the lower part of the market, there were many shops. The guide explained how the Romans spent their day and how they talked about their problems. We had a very nice trip and hope that next time we go on a trip we’ll have as much fun! We learned a lot of new and interest- ing facts about the city. Miss Sofia’s E2 10
