The Analysis of Figurative Language Found in the Song Lyrics of Justin Bieber’s Album Purpose and Its Implementation to Teach Listening in Senior High School. S1 Thesis.English Education Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Purworejo Muhammadiyah University. 2017. This is a descriptive qualitative design research. The aims of this study are to find out the types of figurative language found in Justin Bieber’s song lyrics in the album entitled Purpose, to find out the meaning of each figurative language found in Justin Bieber’s song lyrics in the album entitled Purposeand to know how is the implementation of figurative language in Justin Bieber’s song lyrics in the album entitled Purposein teaching listening. In this research, the data are taken from song lyrics in album Purpose by Justin Bieber. The researcher uses descriptive qualitative research because the researcher would like to describe the figurative language found in song lyrics in and to explain the meaning of each figurative language used in song lyrics in the album entitled Purpose by Justin Bieber. In this research, the researcher used documentation method to collect the data. The result of this study shows that there are 9 types of figurative language on album Purpose by Justin Bieber. Those are 22 similes (30%), 13 metaphors (17.5), 12 personifications (16%), 8 hyperboles (11%), 6 metonymies (8%), 4 ironies (5.5%), 4 symbols (5.5%), 3 understatements (4%), and 2 imageries (3%). The most dominant of figurative language that found in Justin Bieber’s album Purpose is simile. As the result of this research, it is appropriate for the song lyrics in Justin Bieber’s album Purpose to be applied in teaching listening for students in eleventh grade in Senior High School.
