Faced with the complexity of the sources likely consulted byPs.-Callisthenesontheonehandandtheundueneglectof the Alexander Romance in modern studies of Alexander the Great on the other, I decided tomakeaPolishtranslationthe AlexanderRomance, accompaniedbyasmall commentary,publishedin2010.Thisbookhasgrownoutofit,inadditiontothe fruitsofseveralsubsequentyearsofresearchandwriting.Inthecourseofmy studyoftheAlexanderRomanceIbecameawareofthetremendousprogressin scholarshipafterAusfled,KrollandMerkelbach, duetoaverylargedegreeto theincessanteffortsofRichardStoneman.Itisthereforemygreatpleasureto acknowledgehisbooksandpapersasasourceofinspirationforthisvolume,as wellastothankhimforhisencouragingcommentsonmyworkandthebooks thathegenerouslysharedwithmeonmorethanoneoccasion.
