SCHOOL ACTION PLAN – April 2016–to March 2017

The Action Plan evolved out of Principal‘s workshop held at Gyanodaya from December 21-23, 2015 is based on
the thought that Learning is an outcome of constructive learning experiences. It‘s more about overall development
of skills, honing talent and grooming future leaders. Learning by rote cannot lead to academic excellence. The need
of the hour is to develop Higher Order Thinking Skills. The adoption of high-tech driven technologies in education
can bridge the gap between the modern and the traditional practice of teaching. Digital-learning tools can make
learning experiences interesting and valuable. The main focus of our initiative is the promotion of use of values and
skills along with Information Technology. With an all-inclusive curriculum, student focused learning environment
we aim to provide opportunities for enrichment in the fields of academics, sports and fine arts and help students
grow in a holistic way.

NEW ACADEMIC SESSION 2016-17
APRIL 2016

Distribution of Text Books , School Uniform and the School-Almanac takes place in the beginning of the
academic year. The Almanac is an important document and a valuable link between home and school. Detailed
information about school Rules and regulations, School-Calendar, Examination, Curricular and Co-curricular
activities is contained in the Almanac.
The school uniform is procured from the supplier of Uniform who sets up a counter during the month inside the
school premises for the benefit of the students and the parents.
Academic Session begins on 4th April 2016.
Introduction to KG is scheduled on 5th and 11th of April 2016 respectively for LKG and UKG.

Curriculum Planning for New Academic Session: Teaching units will be well planned with its broad array of
objectives, content items, activities, materials, and evaluation devices organized around a topic. This will provide
room not only for student differences but also for student-teacher planning and subject integration as well. A
teaching unit will include activities such as computer-based learning, cooperative learning, peer tutoring, and study
projects.
To translate a curriculum into classroom practice and to accommodate students' individual differences, the
curriculum will be planned holistically.
Integrated Lesson Plans: The lesson plans will integrate various subject topics for holistic approach.
House Meeting – To inculcate the values of cooperation, teamwork, healthy competition, students of the school are
divided into four houses i.e. Ganga, Kaveri, Krishna and Yamuna. Inter-house competitions are held among these
houses group wise. Group A(Classes I –IV), Group B (Classes V – VIII), Group C (Classes IX- XII)
 The house system is an integral part of school and helps to co-ordinate various activities and leads to
building up of espirit de corps and camaraderie of lasting nature among students.
 House meetings are organised from time to time to develop and strengthen house spirit among the students
and identify the talents in house for Inter and Intra House Competitions which foster healthy competitive
spirit.
 The house vies with one another to keep the House flag aloft and win the house trophies.
World Health Day – Food containing harmful bacteria, viruses, parasites or chemical substances is responsible for
more than 200 diseases, ranging from diarrhea to cancers. New threats to food safety are constantly emerging and
therefore safety towards food for safe health us a must. World Health Day 2016 is an opportunity to alert people
working in different government sectors, farmers, manufacturers, retailers, health practitioners – as well as
consumers – about the importance of food safety, and the part each can play in ensuring that everyone can feel
confident that the food on their plate is safe to eat. Students learn that unsafe food is linked to the deaths of an
estimated 2 million people annually – mostly children.
World Heritage Day –. This special day on April 18 offers an opportunity to raise the awareness about the
diversity of cultural heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and conserve it, as well as draw attention to
its vulnerability. The World Heritage is the shared wealth of humankind. Protecting and preserving this valuable
asset demands the collective efforts of the international community
Poster making, designing of stamps, discussions and talk-shows are in the agenda.

Heritage Trip to nearby monuments and places are arranged for the students to provide scope for experiential
learning to the children.

Earth day - The April 22 Earth Day is usually celebrated with outdoor performances, where students perform acts
of service to earth. Typical ways of observing Earth Day include planting trees, picking up roadside trash,
conducting various programs for recycling and conservation, using recyclable containers for snacks and lunches.
Our commitment to Mother Earth is what the students learn and are expected to adhere with in order to safeguard
the beauty of our planet.

World Books Day - World Books Day, on April 23, is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most
importantly) it‘s a celebration of reading. In fact, it is designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books
and reading.

A Book Reading Day, organised by the Library Council, is earmarked to inculcate and popularise reading habit
amongst children.

Joy of Sharing –. Learning to share can be a challenge for young children, but sharing is a skill they need for play
and learning throughout childhood. Sharing teaches children about compromise and cooperation. They learn that if
we give a little to others, we can get some of what we want as well. Children who share also learn how to take turns
and negotiate, and how to cope with disappointment.

 Co-Scholastic Activity –
 Inter House Indoor (Board games) like Carom and Chess are conducted during this month.
 Inter House Literary Competitions like Calligraphy, Extempore and Spell Bee.

Training in Evening Sports, Athletics, Table Tennis, Karate begin to strengthen pursuit of excellence in sports.
Students are imparted training on a regular basis viewing in mind the importance of sound health. Students are
given practise for representation at State and National Level Sports Championships.

Counselling Session for Senior Class Students – (Adolescent Education Programmes).
 Seminar to provide a safe and healthy environment that promotes respect, diversity and supports the
social/emotional growth of all students.
 A newly formulated committee looks into the issue of sexual harassment and addresses issues as and when
required.
Integrated Learning is encouraged through

Career counselling for students of Classes IX-X through Career Counselling Cell
Career counselling is a vital organ of our school functionary. We are in a very comfortable position with a
systematized way of counselling for the children from an early stage. Even the teachers and Principal participate in
guiding the students to make the perfect choice. Apart from such regular assistance and guidance we have special
sessions of Career guidance by professionals on regular basis to upgrade them about latest opportunities and ways
that are trendy.

World Environment Day - World Environment Day is held each year on June 5. Over the years it has grown to be
a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated by stakeholders in over 100 countries. It also
serves as the ‗people‘s day‘ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a
collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet. World Environment Day (WED) is the
United Nations‘ principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Activities
in our school include rallies, tree planting, and clean-up campaigns by the Eco Club and Health and Wellness Club
to bring awareness among students and provide them with a safe and healthy environment.

Investment in being Leaders:
Investiture Ceremony – The Investiture ceremony denotes investment in being leaders and the trust and
confidence we repose in newly invested office bearers for the involvement of the students‘ community in day today
functioning of the school, since we believe in child centric approach. The School Parliament is the backbone of the
school. Capabilities of individual students are monitored and those with leadership qualities are selected to the
prefect council. Head boy and Head girl at the school level whereas House Captains at the House level take an oath
to assist in school, guided by school staff. Our newly elected student council take an oath in front of the whole
school to be true to their posts and duties assigned to them.

World Day against Child Labour – Aiming to raise awareness and activism to prevent child labour, the World
Day against Child Labour is observed on June 12, 2016.
World Blood Donor Day: To increase awareness amongst the students about timely access to safe blood during an
emergency and the need to thank blood donors for their voluntary life saving gifts of blood, the day is observed on
14 June. Students participate in street play.
Library Activities:
 Presentation of Book Reviews by the children of Classes V-X (A Class Activity for FA.)
 Initiation and ample use of Class Library as and when required for improvement of English
Language.

Formative Assessment I – Class V to X take the formative assessment.

International Music Day (21st June)-The IMD was initiated in 1975 by Lord Yehudi Menuhin to encourage the
promotion of our musical art among all sections of society.
World Yoga Day - International day of yoga is also called as the world yoga day. United Nations General
Assembly has declared 21st of June as an International Yoga Day on 11th of December in 2014. Yoga in India is
considered to be around 5,000 year old mental, physical and spiritual practice. Yoga was originated in India in
ancient time when people were used of meditation to transform their body and mind. Launching a particular date of
practicing yoga all across the world and celebrating as yoga day was initiated by the Indian Prime Minister to the
United Nations General Assembly.
Co-Scholastic Activity –
a. Inter House indoor games like Carom and Chess continue along with Table Tennis and Badminton continue
b. Group A will play Dog and Bone.
c. Inter House Literary Competitions i. e. Essay writing in English and Hindi will be organised.

Participation in Health and Physical Education is scheduled in accordance with dates received from State
Government and also CBSE.

Workshop and Training –
Building Leadership – Today‘s students are tomorrow‘s leaders. Given the right guidance, students will
understand that freedom and responsibility go hand in hand, as they will feel a kind of belongingness in the school
and ownership. The Prefectorial Board will function in this direction.
Life Skills: Practical training in life-skills through leadership camps of scouts and guides.
Building Leadership in teachers / In-house Workshop on Effective Classroom Teaching:
This will be seen as an opportunity to assist in grooming a teacher who can operate in the 21st century environment.
The focus will be on:
 Use of teaching methods based on reflection and problem solving
 Transmission of knowledge to learners should be learner-centered with emphasis on active learning and
problems solving
 Full utilization of Information technology to enhance teaching and learning in and out of classrooms.

WCM has been implemented in the school as in other area in the unit. This has resulted in the teachers taking
ownership of the school, classroom and other areas together with maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene.

Extra Coaching Classes are conducted to achieve the academic benchmark and bring improvement in student
performance. Classes are conducted beyond school hours by our teachers.
JULY 2016

World Doctor’s Day - A special day is observed to thank the doctors for their humane services to mankind. Every
year July 1 is `Doctor's Day' which is very special for every medical practitioner.
World Population Day – United Nations' (UN) World Population Day is annually observed on July 11 to reaffirm
the human right to plan for a family. It encourages activities, events and information to help make this right a reality
throughout the world. Activities include seminars, discussions, educational information sessions and essay
competitions. Students participate in cycle rallies and shout slogans on population-related issues.On World
Population Day we aim to increase people‘s awareness on various population issues such as the importance of
family planning, including gender equality, poverty, maternal health and human rights.

Kargil Victory Day: On July 26, the nation commemorates its hard-earned victory in the Kargil War, which is also
an occasion that invokes feelings of both pain and pride for the families of the brave jawans who laid down their
lives protecting the territory of India from intruders. Children are inspired with the learning of history of the Kargil
War and filled with a renewed sense of doing something for the country. Prayer service and talk is organised.

The International Day of Friendship is a United Nations (UN) day that promotes the role that friendship plays in
promoting peace in many cultures. It is observed on July 30 each year. To mark the International Day of Friendship,
school will hold events, activities and initiatives that promote solidarity, mutual understanding and reconciliation.
Students make friendship bands and tie on the wrists of their friends to promote the feeling of solidarity. Card
making with innovative messages on the theme is encouraged.

Safety / Work Related Skill –
 Disaster Management – a seminar for students and teachers to develop awareness of natural disasters and
preparedness for the same.
 Mock Safety Drill is conducted

in scholastic and co-scholastic areas.

Counselling on Health and Hygiene for boys and girls of different age-groups.

Career Counselling Cell for Classes IX-XI takes up innovative sessions to inform students on various career
options available to them. Guidance is provided for professional competencies.

Leadership Camp / Scouts and Guide Night Camp: Being exposed to new experiences and encouraged by
friendly and sympathetic adults to try new things helps the child build self-confidence. True self-esteem comes
from doing something new and difficult and succeeding.

Library Activity: Use of story-cards to narrate stories with follow-up activities.

AUGUST 2016
Hiroshima Day- Hiroshima Day is observed to reflect on the lives lost to the atomic bombs on August 6, 1945.
Nagasaki Day- Nagasaki Day will be observed with its message of "Peace" to mark the tragedy of the fatal
bombing in 1945.
Quit India Day- The day marks the anniversary of Quit India movement and is observed every year even after 68
years. Quit India Movement is considered as a turning point in India‘s struggle for freedom. Initiated by Father of
the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, the movement urged the Indian masses to raise their voice against brutal rule of
British Empire. The English leaders were asked to ―Quit India‖. It was India‘s very own war cry that redefined the
freedom struggle.
Independence Day Celebration - Independence Day at school is a day when we pay homage to the Indian leaders
and those who fought for India's freedom in the past. The tri colour will flutter from the flag post as many special
programmes are celebrated to promote the day. Movies about India's freedom fighters are also shown. The children
participate in School Parade and put up a cultural show.
World Humanitarian Day falls on 19th August, the day when 22 aid workers were killed in a bombing at the UN
headquarters in Baghdad. It‘s a day to commemorate all people who have lost their lives in humanitarian service
and to celebrate the spirit of people towards helping others and that which motivates this work.
Leadership Initiative:
Service Week is planned by Social Service Committee. A visit to an orphanage or home for the blind or an old age
home is arranged so that students learn to help others to make a huge difference in their lives through kindness,
generosity and willingness to reach out in the community.
Inter-School Competition - The history of world is full of men who rose to the occasion and proved themselves by
sheer force of self-confidence, bravery and tenacity. The young, ignited minds are our greatest assets. The art of
holistic education lies in its responsiveness to the diverse learning styles and needs of evolving human beings. ―The
central task of education is to implant a will and facility for learning; it should produce not learned but learning
people. The truly human society is a learning society, where everyone learns together.‖
The students of the school participate in various Inter School Competitions where they not only prove their mettle
but also act as tough competitors to the other participants. Competitions are held in Literary, Cultural and Art
categories.

Power-point Presentation to encourage out of classroom experiential learning methods through Computer-
aided learning. Computers have impacted all our daily activities. Distances are shortened and well-bridged now
due to the latest development in chip technologies. Our lifestyle is now defined and controlled by computers. There
is computer involved is almost all the fields. To be specific, education has been completely transformed with the
help of computers. Students who are being trained intensively in computers will make adept use of them to create
Power-point Presentations on the given theme.
Integrated Learning:
Robotics : Robotics has been integrated in the curriculum as it provides a natural fit with good pedagogy that
emphasizes meaningful problem-based learning, integration and application of knowledge, hands-on learning in
cooperative groups, and demonstrable mastery of new learning. It attracts students to content domains such as
mechanics, electrical circuits, and applied mathematical reasoning that all too often are stumbling blocks for school
students. Robotics engages students in complex, strategic problem-solving and higher-order thinking—a set of skills
that is a high priority for 21st century education. What is more, this kind of problem-solving can be introduced in a
gradual, self-motivated way, so beginner students can experience satisfying achievements right away and can
quickly move on to new challenges in a continuous progression toward greater levels of sophistication.

World Senior Citizens day is observed to instil respect and love for the elderly.

Grand Parents Day – Grandparents Day is a day for celebrating the connections between the generations.
We have established a special day to honour our grandparents. As we seek to strengthen the enduring values of the
family, grandparents fill some of the gaps in our mobile society; our senior generation also provides our society a
link to our national heritage and traditions. The purpose of celebrating grandparent‘s day is -
 To honour grandparents
 To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children‘s children.
 To help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.

Co-Scholastic Activity –
a. Inter House Cultural Competitions like Solo and Group Song for group C students.

organized for the teachers.

SEPTEMBER 2016

Teacher’s Day –Teachers mould and shape the future of a child. Teacher's Day is celebrated to thank teachers for
providing invaluable guidance. Teachers have an influencing role in the life of every student. Students participate in
planning and organising a cultural show and learn event-management on a small scale. Respect for teachers is
inculcated in the process.
The United Nations' (UN) International Literacy Day annually falls on September 8 to raise people's awareness
of and concern for literacy issues in the world. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO) and its partners promote the day to underline the significance of literacy for healthy
societies, with a strong emphasis on epidemics and communicable diseases such as HIV, tuberculosis and malaria.
Other activities include literacy day projects, particularly with regard to technology and literature, which are
promoted by various organizations including reading associations.

Leadership Initiative-
Service to community: Students and teachers spare time to approach the adopted Govt. School and teach the
children there, spreading the light of education in the community and imbibing the values and joy of giving.

Hindi Day - Hindi has been as the National Language by the Constitution of India on 14th September, 1949. Hindi-
Divas is celebrated every year on the same date. Skits, poems and speeches are delivered as this language unites the
whole India and is used as ‗language of unity‘.
The United Nations’ (UN) International Day of Democracy is annually held on September 15 to raise public
awareness about democracy. Various activities and events are held around the world to promote democracy on this
date.

A session on Mock Parliament is conducted to understand the democratic set up of the constituency.

Co-Scholastic Activity –
a. Inter House Sports like Volleyball Ball, Kho-Kho continue this month.
b. Inter House Literary Competitions Solo Dance, Hindi Extempore

d. KG students will be introduced to Flower Day which through interactive activities. Rhymes Competition

Development of Linguistic Skills through Language Laboratory: The Language Lab will be available and made
functional to help children to improve their linguistic skills.
Adapting to changes: Counseling of students on Health and Hygiene
I Term Examination for Class XII and Common grade Bi-Annual Examination for Class XI students.
Unit Test II for classes I to IV.
Summative Assessment I for classes V to X.

World Tourism Day, which is on September 27 each year, aims to foster awareness among the international
community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic values. Students prepare
Travelogues as a part of their project work.
Counselling of girls on safety and hygiene: Keeping in mind the changing scenario and demands of safety in the
society, girls are counseled by Vice Principal and lady teachers to help them know and differentiate between good
touch and bad touch. The girls are also shown video clippings relevant to hygiene and safety.
Karate Classes for girls are taken up to provide training in Martial Arts on a regular basis. This is a continued
initiative along with Yoga and meditation for an enhanced life style and healthy living.
Sports Training in Martial Arts for boys and girls is given on a regular basis for representation in Competitions.
Belt award Ceremony is held as and when required.
OCTOBER 2016

Term II begins
Gandhi Jayanti / International Peace Day – Second term begins with Gandhi Jayanti celebration. Students pay
tributes to their leader by delivering speeches, reciting poems and singing patriotic songs. All encourage the
students to fulfill their dreams of making India a peaceful and prosperous nation. The students also present cultural
programme including skits, patriotic songs and bhajans to convey the message of peace and non-violence on the
occasion.

Cleanliness campaign in and out of school will be organised with maximum participation of students to
inculcate the goodness of the famous tenets of Gandhiji.

World Post Office Day marks the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union's establishment and is annually held
on October 9. The union aimed to create and maintain a structure for the free flow of international mail around the
world. These are prized by stamp collectors and philatelists (people who study stamps). In addition, special lessons
on these topics may be arranged for school children and the postal services and their employees may receive extra
training or recognition and attention in the media.
Young philatelists from school will present their portfolio and others would be encouraged to emulate.
World Student’s Day- It was year 2010 when United Nations decided to mark the importance of India‘s former
President and great scientist APJ Abdul Kalam and declared his birthday as ‗World Students Day‘. October 15,
which is Dr. Kalam‘s birth anniversary, is celebrated as a day for students all around the world. Even Dr. Kalam
always expressed his wish to be remembered as a teacher by the people.
United Nations Day UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the
ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of
the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being. 24 October has been celebrated as United
Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by
Member States as a public holiday.
National Integration Day - India colourful and vibrant, a land as diverse as its people. A mosaic of faiths, cultures,
customs and languages that blend harmoniously to form a composite whole. One of the world‘s oldest living
civilizations - which gave to the world - the concept of zero, the primordial sound Aum…Yoga, and Buddhism.
National Integration Day is celebrated in school for this rich India and its cultural Heritage.

RUN for INTEGRITY is organised for the students and staff.

Athletic Trial and Athletic Meet is organised in the school with 100% participation of students from all classes to
develop sportsman spirit and healthy competition.

Mock Safety Drill is organised in the school to emphasise on emergency exits and safety precautions.

Installation of CCTV Cameras have helped in monitoring of the school campus and is an added safety
measure. Groups of teachers keep vigil as Floor In charges and Area In charges. Talk on SAFETY FIRST is
held in school.

Co-Scholastic Activity –

Career counselling
The CBSE with its new evaluation system has eased the stream lining of the student's individual aptitude and career
tendencies from a very early stage. It has facilitated a regular measure of change or growth in their overall
performance levels. The various behavioural and socio-cultural involvements being the parameters of judgment
assist the counsellor, which includes all our teachers as well, to pin point the accurate space of development for the
students.

Kanakadasa Jayanthi – Kanakadasa Jayanthi is a festival celebrated by people of Karnataka in general. It is
celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of the great poet and saint Shri Kanaka Dasa, as a tribute to one of the
great social reformers of Karnataka.
World Science Day for Peace and Development - Established by UNESCO in 2001, World Science Day for
Peace and Development is celebrated worldwide on 10 November each year. It offers an opportunity to demonstrate
to the wider public why science is relevant to their daily lives and to engage them in debate on related issues. By
throwing bridges between science and society, the aim is to ensure that citizens are kept informed of developments
in science, while underscoring the role scientists play in broadening our understanding of the remarkable, fragile
planet we call home and in making our societies more sustainable.
National Education Day is an annual observance in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul
Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India, who served from 15 August 1947 until 2 February
1958. National Education Day of India is celebrated on 11 November every year.

School Exhibition and Fun Fair on Children’s Day Celebration – Integrating all subjects towards
experiential learning is an objective for organising the School Exhibition.School exhibition in all subjects, art
and craft is held wherein students will display the models and exhibits made by them. Fun fair is most enjoyed by
students and parents. They have fun playing games and eating delicious snacks.

Workshop and Training –
 Creative thinking and Communication Skills – soft skill workshop for students to think creatively and
communicate effectively.
 To lay emphasis on practical work so that labs are properly used and students are in the habit of Research
Oriented Studies, we give projects and conduct seminars from time to time. We encourage students to
participate in science exhibitions
 Experimental learning in Well-equipped Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math and Robotics lab . In this
way, the theoretical concepts can be easily comprehended and appreciated by the child.
 To enhance the learning graph of the students the Astronomy club and regular Robotics with computer
class is integrated to prepare students for higher level training.

World Aids Day – is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection
among our students by a seminar/lecture from the specialist doctor.
Activities like Poster making and Debate are held.

Transport Safety Week – is observed. Lectures, movies, awareness campaigns are organised for the students.
Students are made aware of the benefits of safe driving and responsibilities as a good citizen in following rules and
regulations on and off-road safety. Safety rally and demonstrations are organised.

International Day of People with Disability (December 3) International Day of People with Disability is an
opportunity for the community to make positive changes to the lives of many. It is an international
observance promoted by the United Nations since 1992. It has been celebrated with varying degrees of success
around the planet. The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability issues and mobilize
support for the dignity, rights and well-being of persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of
gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and
cultural life.
